Side panel opens on startup
-
So I have freshly installed Vivaldi as I am planning on switching to it. I have now set ChatGPT.com as a side panel. But every time I open Vivaldi, this panel is open. I have checked lazy load in the settings, I am 100% that the panel is not open when I close the browser, I have re-added the panel.... nothing works. Every time I open the browser, this panel just opens instantly. I am on version 7.1.3570.47.
EDIT: I have just noticed: It is not only this specific panel. Upon start up, the last panel that I've used will open. Even if I have closed it before closing the browser.

Enjoy browsing with Vivaldi.

@turw41th Ah, you are an other person having such issue.
I saw a few reports in forum with web panels not hiding after restart. -
@DoctorG Don't know if it's related... An extension I had installed insisted on appearing in the Side Panel too. I noticed that anytime it auto-updated during a Vivaldi start up the Side Panel would be opened and it would be selected. I finally gave up on that extension and removed it. Haven't seen the Side Panel open on startup since
-
@lfisk Yeah, same here. For me it was Grammarly.
-
Vivaldi panels are not the same as on native Chromium.
That is why some extensions behave strange with Vivaldi panels. -
this happens to me too, it's very annoying.
-
@tutos For a check if extensions is the cause
- Open Extension manager in a tab (Ctrl+Shift+E)
- Disable all extensions
- Enable one
- Restart Vivaldi
- Check if panel opens
- Enable next extension
- Restart Vivaldi
- Check if panel opens
- and so on until panel is opened after restart
The last activated causes the issue.

Yeah, same problem with me. I've disabled all my extensions and re-enabled one by one - no change. Restored web panel settings to default - no change. Removed all web panel extensions and re-added one at a time - no change. Restarted Vivaldi after each change but problem persists. It is super annoying, so I don't even use the web panel any more. It's broken.

@marcmcfarland
Hi, it's only broken if this would happen for all Vivaldi users but it doesn't.
Sometimes it is not enough to disable extensions but you can keep them from loading at start.
Edit your desktop shortcut of Vivaldi and add--disable-extensions
.The worst case would be a broken profile, you can test this with a test Profile.
-
@JTroyer For me too, but not always. Only once or twice a week, and sometimes even while I am using the browser, i.e. some time after opening it, not at the startup.

This post is deleted! -
Yup, you're not the only, dude. A lot of days have passed and not a word from the devs about this, not a single word, at least I couldn't saw anything and sincerely? This bug SUCKS AS HELL!
I recall the devs, pretty please... an EMERGENCY UPDATE about this!

@Tchelows
Hi, the developer don't read the forum and there is no bug report about.
I run 12 Vivaldi installs and none open panels automatically, not at startup nor during a session.
The first thing is to test it without extensions to sort this out, check my example above.
Or create a new profile, don't install or change anything, add a few web panels and test.
But I bet it is a combination of Chrome extensions.Cheers, mib

@Tchelows Sensational writing, dude, I'm sorry, but it's SENSATIONAL
I'm sorry again, dude, but in the bad way, I'm sorry...
-
Any news on this? It have started happening to me too with Google Translate, that I have pinned to the sidebar.
Note: I'm not have installed any extension.
-
We have reports in the snapshot thread about and try to pinpoint the reason.

I also have this problem after the new update, the Phantom wallet extension side panel opens not only when the program starts, but also every few minutes.
-
@mib2berlin Even with this procedure the problem remains, i don't think it depends on the extensions.
