Find in page function broken after the 7.1 update
-
@DoctorG Followed the instructions to find the crash logs and surprise there's no cache logs (no files at all...)
Now I'll have to find why my Vivaldi is not dumping logs lol...
-
I am writing to report that I am experiencing the same problem. I have not been able to locate any crash log files.
Edit: This issue consistently occurs when searching within a PDF document.
-
Would it be possible that it's crashing "so hard" that it's unable to even dump the crash log? I'm wondering here... I don't know how the crash report dumping works anyway...

Yes, while i was testing over months last year i saw some crashes were not able to generate crashdumps.
See how to get a log file: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/800799
Perhaps the log helps when you crate a report in bugreport page. -
@ericknoleto It's not a crash, it's a hang. So there's no crash dump. The OS might decide to terminate the process at some point, in that case a dump might be generated, I have no idea.
You can create one yourself from the hanging process.
I explained this earlier in the topic if you had read it.
But I think the developers already have a couple of dumps from other users. -
@Pathduck Just followed the post @DoctorG indicated, runned Vivaldi redirecting log to a file.
Also I tried to reproduce the hang (thanks for the correction) on "guest mode" profile, I didn't hang.
Going to send the log file to bug report. Thanks for all the info guys.
*people? Sorry I didn't notice, I'm multitasking a thousand things here -

You are welcome.

@ericknoleto I wish you a nice day, too

@Veddu Yes, hangs when searching text with a pdf file open in Vivaldi. It happens on a Fedora 40 Linux machine.
-
I hope with some next 7.x Snapshot you can test if the issue is gone. I am not able to tell when a 7.1 Stable could get a fix.
-
This occasionally happens on my PC too. Windows 11 Home, 23H2, NVidia GeForce RTX 3050
-
This also happens on my PC I don't know how to adjust it I hope it succeeds
-
I have been encountering this issue when kind off rapidly changing my search term within Gitlab.
I cannot tell what is happening exactly, but from what people mentioned here it seems like an unclean loop/hang when trying to remove the highlight from marked text.
From what I read here and I experienced myself an error will occur when highlights get removed. My Vivaldi would freeze every time something was already marked and I tried to change something.
Vivaldi might freeze when searching for esd in the pdf that Meangineer has provided. I bet that that when he copies the term "esd" and searches for it it will not freeze (assumption).
So maybe my question would be were there any changes to how highlighting text works? -
This happens whenever I open a PDF file and Ctrl+F, then seemingly I 'search too early' i.e typing in a single character nothing is searched, then the second character hangs even without clicking enter (I guess the Ctrl+F box never searches for a single character). If I don't Ctrl+F there's no hang. If I open a PDF file that's been open already for a while there's often no hang. The tab that is 'not responding' keeps taking up CPU (4-5%), memory and random disk activity, all other tabs act as normal. Sometimes loading the same PDF after hang, searching immediately hangs again. Sometimes it doesn't have the hang anymore.
-
I have the same problem, but the freezes occur not when searching (Ctrl+F) in a PDF document, but in the WordPress admin panel while editing website pages.
-
@d723k Please read Minor update for Vivaldi Desktop Browser 7.1 and update.

The first two letters of the word do the trick.
7.1.3570.39 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
I had the same problem, updating to 7.1.3570.42 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) seems to fix the issue.

This is an intentional change. Ctrl+F for find-in-page is now a toggle. Users asked for it. And before you ask, I don't know why and I think it was a stupid and unnecessary change myself. You can remap Ctrl+F to "Find next in Page", that's what I use.
I agree, It's a really stupid change with a toggle Ctrl+F. It is very inconvenient.
Thank you for the "Find next in Page" hint. I have remapped the keys and restored the old good behavior. -
@konstik In a next 7.2 you will git a setting which uses Ctrl+F to toggle find-in-page popup.
