Weird CPU spikes in Vivaldi 6.8?
-
@nisha02, downgrading from 6.8 to 6.1 isn't a good idea, it will break way more than only fixing the problem, even breaking the complete profile.
Since 8 years I never had to downgrade Vivaldi, most issues not even related to Vivldi, but to extensions or extern processes, frequent specially in Windows, which start processes in the background for several reasons, which can cause some strange pikes of the CPU. But to see what is wrong, you need an app or the Task Manager, to see which process is causing it -

Why was nisha02 banned? And correct, downgrading isn't an option with Chromium based browsers sadly enough, but that's why I never upgrade versions that work without any problems like Viv 6.1, I simply install standalone versions of newer versions. If I have problems (like I had with 6.4, 6.7 and 6.8) I simply go back to 6.1, problem solved.

@RasheedHolland I can not reproduce your issue on my Intel i5-7400 + NVidia PC, perhaps because i have 16 GB RAM and a fast SSD.
But i agree that older Vivaldi version were faster and less consuming resources.
BTW, I have some good news, I have been using Viv 6.9 for a couple of hours and I'm not seeing any CPU spikes. But I will now have to wait for a few more days, because I remember in 6.8 it started after a while. But so far so good, and to clarify, I didn't do a complete reinstall, I simply upgraded, which would prove that there was some bug in 6.8, at least if this bug doesn't reappear.

BTW, this is the bug report: VB-108672
Will keep you guys posted. If this CPU spiking bug is not fixed, I will have to keep using Vivaldi 6.1, which I'm happy to do, but it's kinda sad.
BTW, can you perhaps check what the status of this bug report is? So far I'm not seeing any CPU spikes, but I will have to monitor a few more days. I just wondered if they closed this bugreport with the ''solved'' status. Because I do believe that Vivaldi's resource/memory managment has become better. Perhaps developers found out that there was indeed some memory leak in 6.7/6.8, and they fixed it.

@RasheedHolland Still unconfirmed.

OK I see, so this means that they couldn't reproduce it, or that they haven't looked into it?
-
@RasheedHolland One person from QA Team could not reproduce it in 6.9 and i had same experience.

OK cool, so this means that eventhough they could not reproduce, they still might have made changes to memory management, which may have solved the problem for me. I'm currently running Vivaldi 6.9 for about 48 hours (without terminating of course) and I see no CPU spikes, and no major slowdown. But I need to run it for a few more days. Like I said, I can run Vivaldi 6.1 for 7+ days without any problems.

Yes, we appreciate your long-time tests.
If you can not reproduce your issue with 6.9.3447.37, i will close the bugreport.

I will wait a few more days and report back. So far after 3 days running in memory, I still don't see any CPU spikes and no extreme slowdown. But as said before, with 6.8 it started after a week or so. So it's too early to close the bugreport.

BTW, I believe for now you can close the bugreport, because Vivaldi 6.9 has been running in memory for about 7 days now, and still no weird CPU spikes. So seems like they somehow fixed this bug that was present in 6.8, even if they couldn't reproduce it.

Huray!
Good.I will close the report now.
