Unsolved Can't authenticate with Outlook using Oauth
-
@edwardp
When you create a new Outlook account you get asked if you want to use a different mail address.
As I don't needed a new mail address at this time I used an existing address. -
@edwardp I don't see anything in that Microsoft article to suggest anything more than the move to Oauth and removal of application passwords as a means of connecting. (Which is why I was trying to connect using Oauth.)
The problem I'm experiencing is not a DNS issue. I have no problem connecting to Outlook on other devices and apps using the same DNS service, and I could see from the network traffic that Vivaldi was reaching the Microsoft SMTP servers and getting a response.

@komadori
You meant this cryptic [email protected] one?I've tried both the cryptic Outlook address and the non-cryptic one. The cryptic address takes me to Oauth a couple of times with error message 'That Microsoft account doesn't exist.' even though I'm logged in on Vivaldi to the Microsoft account the address is associated with, and ultimately ends with the SMTP login failed message. The non-cryptic outlook address seems to be recognised as being associated with my Microsoft account (no error message on Oauth), but still fails login with the SMTP server.

@komadori
OK, your report is good, I add some tags and a link to this thread.
I leave it to the mail developer to check this out and why Vivaldi mail cant handle this.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin That must be something new (?) as when I created the Outlook accounts, I was not offered the opportunity to use a different address.

@edwardp
More something old, I cant remember exactly but I created this account 10-15 Years ago.
Maybe it is not possible anymore, no idea I never used this account.Have a nice day, mib

@mib2berlin Reported the issue. Roport Number is VB-108329

@EliteIceHockeyMgmt
Hi, thanks for the report but it was reported already.
I marked your report as duplicate of VB-108297, please follow this number for changes in Vivaldi.Cheers, mib

@EliteIceHockeyMgmt @komadori
Hi, the bug report was confirmed by a Vivaldi developer.Cheers, mib

Will this help?

@edwardp
Hi, maybe this:You can sign in to your Outlook.com mail and calendar with your third-party email address, but to access email from your third-party account, you must set it up as a connected account. See "Connected accounts" below.
I don't want to spend more time on this and the report is confirmed as Vivaldi bug, the team will fix this at some point.
Thanks anyway, mib

@edwardp No, that's not relevant to my scenario. That article is describing someone using a third party email address both to log in to their account and as the address they send emails from in Outlook. My scenario is using a third party email address to log in to my Outlook/Microsoft account but using an outlook email address to send emails from the Outlook account.

Good to see I'm not the only one with the issue. Hope this can be resolved.
For now, I've helped myself by setting the @outllok.com email address to be my primary alias. This works in Vivaldi, however I would like to change that again.
