Vivaldi 6.8 on Android – New ways to make the browser match you and updated Ad Blocker
-
@ourostra: same here sadly 🫤
So, right now without a browser -
The blank screen still appears.
-
Has something changed in this release regarding font sizes? Lots of sites look massive now. Old reddit has big text for the links and looks broken as all the other text is small...
-
so, I set google as homepage by access setting from private window and it worked.
-
@3dvs I did the same thing, putting "Google" on the home page. It works while waiting for the bug to be fixed. And to access my speed dials, I go through the side panel on Android
.
-
@fantasybenji Hold your device in Portrait (long side vertical) and you should be able to start Vivaldi and switch to a solid color. Leave it as a solid color and it should work in Landscape too, except the Settings > Wallpaper screen.
-
Ad blocking seems to work great. You can see the improvement. A nice addition would be if there were no white spaces after ads.
-
@jon My subjective impressions after this update: it uses more ram, but I can clearly see an improvement in speed, both in terms of page loading and the performance of the browser itself. A big plus with this update (no problems so far
)

I changed the background image on the start page and now the browser crashes when I try to open a new tab.
Same happened to me, except it crashes whenever I try to open the browser at all, not just a new tab (I have Vivaldi launch with the speed dial open). I can open private tabs by long-pressing on the Vivaldi icon, but that's it.
I reported the bug last night when it happened (VAB-9470). Hopefully it gets escalated to "Blocker", because I can only use Vivaldi in private tabs right now.
Edit: I just updated the bug report with more info.
Edit 2: I see they fixed a crashing issue around the time I reported this last night. Hopefully it's the Speed Dial/Start Page background crash.

@mjpa I am having the exact same problem. And using zoom does not fix the issue.

Why was the option to toggle Dark Mode for individual sites removed? Because this feature breaks many sites, I found that toggle to be great. Now this feature is basically useless without it...
-
@alexthegib: Same thing here. Hoping for a quick fix
-
Sorry for trouble.
You file a bug report at vivaldi.com/bugreport.Meanwhile , you use
V menu- page actions - filter invert
It inverts the page from dark to light and vice versa
Hope you are satisfied by how it works. -

+1
I used this toggle pretty much every day. Prefer dark mode, but some sites just don't display nicely. Now the toggle is global and it is hidden in the preferences.

@jon The new shortcut button is handy. I have changed it to New tab. If New tab stack were available I would have chosen that
-
Fantastic. Is there a way to block ads without letting the sender know, so that we do not get prompted to turn the ad blocker off? Super nettleser som i gamledager Jon!!
-
It's 'altogether' not 'all together' https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/altogether
-
While on any site, if you click on the address bar (the address bar is turned on at the bottom and “Reverse order of search suggestions” is turned on), then the panel: share, copy, edit is displayed at the top for some reason! Did they do this on purpose or did they break it again?
-
@ourostra same here. This is also happening on the Vivaldi snapshot. They should fix this asap. This is very high severity bug.
