Regarding "Add Bookmark" in address field
-
When I click in the "Add Bookmark" in the right side of the address field, it presents to me a UI form with one of the controls being the drop-down with a completely expanded tree view of all my tens of thousands of bookmarks organized into many folders and sub-folders. This is somewhat unmanageable. It would be great if the default view in the drop-down was the fully collapsed tree, with the ability to expand and collapse the nodes of the tree. Perhaps my favorite feature of the good old Presto based Opera was its ability to add, manage and organize huge amounts of bookmarks. In particular, the "Bookmark page..." option under each bookmark folder/sub-folder/level that would pull up the "Add Bookmark" dialog was extremely useful. Vivaldi is a good step and reminds me of the good old Presto days, although it is not a full replacement, yet. Maybe something similar to the Presto engine's "Bookmark page..." -> "Add Bookmark" functionality can be considered for a future Vivaldi release?

@ripuhan Note that the add bookmark button defaults to the last-used folder, where you previously saved a bookmarks. Unless you want to save it to a different fold, just click Save.

Yeah, but with this amount of folders it's likely he won't save it to the same one regularly. Better than, or additionally to, collapsing the whole structure would be to make a search for a folder right from the "Add Bookmark" dropdown. Makes sense for users who have vast amounts of folders.

@luetage You can search in the drop list by typing the first letter of a folder name.

@Pesala I think @ripuhan meant something else. When you add a bookmark in the Opera (Presto), it also presents you the fully expanded tree view of all bookmarks categories that you have. So it's no different than Vivaldi.
But you could've always use the side panel, where all of the folders were collapsed and add a bookmark from there, right in the specific folder, in which you wanted it to have. Of course, you can do that in Vivaldi too. The difference is that in the old Opera all the fields such as the site's URL, title (if there was one) or description (if there was one) were already filled. In Vivaldi you have to fill them in manually. That's a bummer.
The only convenient way to add bookmark in Vivaldi is the default one (CTRL+D), whereas in Opera you had two convenient ways of doing that - with the second one being more useful for people with many categories and subcategories. That's something that I'm missing in Vivaldi too... -

I do this but it's still a long process and requires many taps on the 'k' key to find 'kangaroo' if we have a lot of folders starting with k.
I would love to see folder completion wherein we type the name of the folder and the choices narrow down the more letters we type. I don't know if this can be done. I've requested it.

You can type more letters, like e.g. "kan" to select the folder "kangaroo" using only your keyboard. It won't work only if you type them too slowly (with too long delays between each key presses).

@ripuhan
Hello, when it will be adjusted the regression "VB-22040" you can drag, in the side panel, the tab or the URL directly into the folder you want to create the bookmark.
It works well now, but instead of putting the title of tab, put the URL. -

Thank you.
This is helpful if one has a single instance of a folder that starts with 'kang' but if the folder in question is one with many other folders sharing the same first few letters the process becomes tiresome typing the string over and over thus my desire for the list of folders to narrow as one types more letters. That to me would be killer.
Not sure if they can do it. I would envision a filter box to type the term into and a results list of folder to choose from. One could pick from the full list of folders or use the filter search.
Perfect!

Searching in the drop-down doesn't work for me, because I have hundreds if not thousands of folders and subfolders, sometimes sub-folders with the same name within different parent folders. Sometimes even I am not sure where exactly I might file the bookmark until I have browsed through the bookmark folders. The Presto based Opera solves this situation like no other browser (images below).
@pafflick has captured what I am basically looking for. @Folgore101 thanks for the pointer. That is closest to what I am looking for, and what the Presto based Opera provides. I also found the "Bookmark Tab" right click context menu option in Vivaldi. I guess for an initial pass, it is OK adding the bookmark using this option to the root level, but hopefully down the road, the user will get some sort of prompt on where exactly they might want the bookmark to go, as in which folder/sub-folder.
I will go with @Folgore101 -'s drag and drop option for now. Hopefully the devs at Vivaldi will iterate on this some more...

This describes me exactly. I am a compulsive organizer/categorizer. I wonder how many there are like us?

Only a compulsive organizer would ask that question.

An apt observation.
It appears the malady is confirmed.
