Multidevice workspace (which Vivaldi doesn't have) might be an alternative to send-to-device (which Vivaldi doesn't have too). However, there are other well established browsers like Firefox or Brave (also Chromium based like Vivaldi...), that have this feature, but they are at slightly lower level of customisation than Vivaldi is. Anyway, nobody's perfect.
-
Hi, this feature was removed from the Chromium developers long time ago but you can open tabs from other devices in the window panel now.
That doesn't make sense. Chromium is just the engine. Vivaldi, Opera, Edge, etc add lots of their own features and functionality on top of the engine. Obviously it would be no problem for Vivaldi to build their own "share to device" feature completely independent of what "Chromium" is doing internally, but they choose not to for some reason.
I was a hardcore Opera fan until version 100 when they completely ruined it because "AI", but that's the one feature I miss the most, being able to reliably share tabs to my desktop.

Hi,
There are other priorities, even more being this can be achieved by other ways -
I'm not sure how to access synced tabs from my android phone.
from linux i can easily acess opened tabs on my android device.
-windows 11 tabs dont showfrom Windows 11, nothing is accessible. i get the qr code when clicking the cloud icon.
i never thought it would get on my nerves, but knowing i could use this tool, well... yep its definitely annoying
-
@Aluxonne I don't understand this. Everything works normally here, both on Linux and on Win11. Chromium killed the ability to "send" tabs to synced devices awhile ago, of course, but opening tabs from the sync cloud just works.
As I understand it, adding a page to reading list on Any device should cause it to show up in the reading list via sync on all other devices. Do you use the reading list? As far as I know, that's the only way for mobile to open things that were opened on another device. If there's a way to access the sync cloud on mobile, I'm not familiar with it.
-
@Ayespy
happy to know that sync cloud works for you.
thank you for pointing me the reading list, this is gonna be helpful for my mobile tabs , it works great on ervery platform. -
@Aluxonne Excellent. In the meantime, there is something broken with your profile - possibly interference from an extension, or maybe some sort of corruption..

https://help.vivaldi.com/android/android-browse/android-tabs/#Sync_Tabs
(ie. on the Tabs view on Android, click the cloud icon at the bottom)
-
@thomasp Ah. I see that. So, click on the little box that has your number of tabs shown in it, and at the bottom of the page is the cloud icon, and that does display recent (though not ALL recent) tabs from my primary desktop browser.

Came here for the same issue. My tabs between two separate desktops running the latest Vivaldi Stable versions are not syncing tabs. In fact, one of the two signed in devices shows old abandoned devices tabs that don't even exist anymore. The other device shows zero tabs. The other sync features appear to working fine, it's just my sync tabs that appears to be the problem.
Am I reading right in this thread? This is a known issue that's being worked on?

Google's Chromium core broke this. When a easy fix exists, the Vivaldi devs will added it. So we need patience until it will be fixed..

@Ayespy
Good news , reading that all works fine with your tabs, i decided to uninstall vivaldi on my windows once again, this time with an auto uninstaller app - uninstallr-
then reinstalled vivaldi fresh new and voila everything works perfectly -
-
@Aluxonne You had to uninstall and re-install the browser for your sync to work?
I didn't try that and don't want to because I don't want to go through the whole process of setting up my settings again. Is this issue actually fixed at Google Chromes core or is it still broken like @DoctorG mentioned?
-
@DoctorG Well, it turns out I was wrong. Most of the sync features don't seem to work. It's not just the tabs. For example, I changed all my settings on this machine and when I went to my other machine, none of the settings synced over there.
What is it with browsers and syncing? Seems like most browsers still can't get sync features to work properly. There's always something that doesn't work. Most of the time it's settings that don't entirely sync. Very frustrating. Is it too much to ask for a full sync of all settings and UI changes?

@hbarwari
Hi, if no settings and no tabs are synced something is wrong.
I sync several devices on Windows, Linux and Android and all tabs are synced.Open vivaldi://sync-internals
All rows in the table right side should be green or grey.
There is a button Trigger GetUpdates, add a bookmark, hit the button and the Bookmark Counter show +1 bookmarks.
Do the same on the other device and the new bookmark appears.
If this not work a firewall or security software maybe block sync on your systems. -
Hi, I appreciate your response.
I sync everything except bookmarks because I use floccus for bookmark syncing. That being said, I have tried the 'trigger getupdates' button and it does nothing. I don't know what's going on, but this has been going on for a while now.
I have Vivaldi Stable on Arch from the AUR repo.
I have Vivaldi Stable on Debian from the Vivaldi website in .deb file.Not sure what else to do. Also, no one in this thread has commented on whether the 'Google Chrome core' issue has been fixed or not and whether sync is supposed to be 100% back to normal. For me it's certainly not.
-
@hbarwari
Looks the same for me more or less.
Sessions are tabs on all devices as far as I know, could this be 36 on your side?
Preferences are the settings synced, it show 236 on my sync-internals.
There was never 100% synced, many settings, workspaces, sessions, themes are not synced, for example.The core issue is the Chromium developer had removed the "Send to device" feature and it will never come back.
-
I have no clue how to resolve this. I should mention that I have three devices. Two are Debian and one is Arch, and all three of them are not in sync despite being signed in to the same account. Quite bizarre because I also Floorp as my Firefox alternative and no issues on sync with those.
