How to Disable Preview in Android Browser
-
With Google set as Home page, I open the browser and get a "Preview" Tab. Very annoying!
How do I turn that OFF!
Please do not point me to the "Tab Options" as that "Help" is for a desktop, not Android. -
What’s a preview tab?

@bob575
I guess you meant the speed dial of Vivaldi, this is the default start and home page.
You can change the home page to a URL like google.com but this doesn't change the start page.
If your last tab is google.com and you close Vivaldi it remember it and open with google.com at next start.It would be very annoying if my browser start with a search engine page every time.
If you really need to search at every browser start use the address bar to search. -
No, I do not mean "Speed Dial". And yes I know that "Speed Dial" is the Default "Start" page in Vivaldi.
Vivaldi also allows you to turn on and Set a "Home" page for the startup page. When I do that on an Android device I get a page that is prefixed with "Preview | google.com". This display is NOT a live page. It is an image of the live page and I have to close (X) the tab to display the "live" google page.
In the desktop version there is an option to in "Tabs" to Disable "Show PopUp Thumbnails" that prevents this behavior. In the Android version there is no such setting. -

Hi again, we cant know what a user know and a screen shot would have saved us all time.I test before I answer here but I don't realize the page is not functional.
I guess this is a licence problem, if you have Google as start page you have to pay fees to Google.
If you use heise.de, a German PC magazine you get a real page.
I will ask in the developer chat why they have to make it so.
Maybe you remember which search engine is default in your location, I bet this will work as homepage, too.Cheers, mib

@bob575
OK, this is a new Chromium feature for memory saving and you cant disable it.
If you make a feature request to change this I would support it even I use speed dial on all devices.Cheers, mib

Is there a way the Preview mode can be turned off because when we close and open the browser on mobile this shows up the last screen before closure. Nevertheless no links and/or navigation would be active. We just need to pull down and refresh the page.
Hence just felt if there is a way to turn off this mode and have the browser load either a blank tab or full load of the last visited URL?

Hi @all:
Is there a way to get totally rid of this forced preview?
It sucks if you have to complete, for example, a form and you leave the Vivaldi app to get some data from your mail app.
Then, when you go back to Vivaldi, all the fields you've already completed, are empty and you have to start again to complete everything.I'd really appreciate to be able to disbale the function of any previews...

Hi, I cant reproduce this, if I set google.com as start page I can reach my account, Google apps or start a search.
No need to close the page.Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite

This is a built-in feature of Chromium on android whereas it caches the page. I think it was introduced when it became 64bit with release 85. It happens to me too. Here and Here is more info on that. Appearantly there is a flag you can disable.
EDIT: looks like they have removed that flag and it’s fully embedded.

@Veddu
Hm, I don't get this "Preview" anymore, the page is completely functional. -
It shows for me. However it does that when the app has been closed out from memory and not opened for a while.
-
@Veddu
Aha, I have to test this, what time period approximately? -
I closed the app out of the memory and the waited like 5 min
-
@Veddu
Hm, after a hour still no "Preview" in the address bar but after a reboot I get it.
The page seems still functional, if I change to Images it does without reload the page.
Or my stone age device is to fast I notice it.
I have to stop testing here, I don't use this and I am not sure if one even call it a bug.Cheers, mib

The function is called Freeze-Dried Tabs. And I think it is only available for chrome 64 bit and there are minimum specs requierements for that.
