V 6.6 | Missing Mute Tab 🔇
-
OK post above edited. I guess you have to click on the link to the image; it didn't post it here. There are three tabs; one has volume on/off, the other two do not. Until three days ago, it used to have volume on/off on ALL tabs. Also I tried a new profile. Same results.
It's bad. It's either volume for all tabs, or for none.
-
If you can reproduce it on a fresh profile, it’s perhaps a Windows only issue. Wait, are all these tabs pinned? And the picture doesn’t seem to be from a fresh profile …
-
@luetage What would that mean, a Windows only issue? What do you think would change that would make everything be good on another browser but not this one? I wouldn't know what to look at.
-
@lisating I’m testing on Linux. If I can’t reproduce it, but you can, then one explanation is that it’s dependent on operating system. Could be another reason too, perhaps missing reproduction steps, who knows.
-
I'm testing Chrome, Firefox - everything works fine. Every tab has its own volume control. Just not on Vivaldi. So something has changed here for me, if not for you or others. If I try a new profile and it still has the same issue, it makes me think browser. :| I don't know what else to try.
-
@lisating You are misunderstanding. Windows only issue means that it’s an issue on Vivaldi for Windows. Forget about other browsers. Anyway, be patient. Someone on Windows would need to test to confirm and then a dev would have to take a look at it and then you would need to wait for a release with the fix. These things don’t happen overnight.

Hi,
What controls exactly are you referring to?If the Tab Speaker,
Have you enabled any Flag or Shortcut switch? One of them Mutes all the playing sound on opened tabs of the same domain.

@luetage Oh I see! OK thank you.

@Zalex108 I've changed nothing on my browser. That doesn't mean that something hasn't changed. I did look at Mute Tab Audio earlier (under TAbs) and it says Play All Audio. (on all tabs) and I switched that to play only in Active Tab, but that didn't change anything.
-
-
@Zalex108 I see that.
I have tested setting the audio to only play in the Active Tab. I closed my browser, reopened it and tested. It's not acting as expected; it does the same thing - mutes all tabs or plays all tabs from that domain. I tried messing with the right click Mute all or Mute domain but that does nothing at all. Everything still plays, if it's been playing.
-
Then, check the shortcut.
-
@Zalex108 oh you mean my startup parameters in the Vivaldi properties? I did that when I read your post. I do not have those parameters.

@lisating
I can confirm this. Yesterday everything worked fine. Today I updated to version 6.6.3271.45 on Windows 11 and I'm getting the same bugs you're seeing. The first Twitch tab opened works perfectly fine, every other tab has sound or maybe not, it's a gamble.
I think if you mute the first tab, then open a second tab, the second tab is just permanently muted, it will never produce any sound ever. Unmuting the first tab, closing the second tab, reopening it brings will display a "Click to unmute" option for about two seconds. If you don't click it, back to being forever muted. If you click it there will be sound but it's still linked to the first tab's sound. It's a mess and pretty much unusable.
However, this happening after the upgrade might be a red herring. Other browsers seem to be partly affected? It could be Twitch's fault? More experiments required. -
@Zalex108 I have vision issues. I'm not sure I could trust myself to edit the registry properly anymore. I'll have to see if I am able. If I can, I'll post back.
-
No need,
Just asked whether you did it before and added that Switch or not.Since despite not appearing on the Shortcut, would be triggered by the registry, but just in case added since this has to be done manually.
So,
I guess you didn't modified those Registry entries and add itOk,
Should be something else. -
Okay, I think I'm seeing two separate issues here:
- If you open a stream with a new tab in the background it might (not sure what exactly triggers this) display this "Click to unmute" prompt for two seconds. Because the tab is in the background you can't see it and can't click it and sound in that tab is forever gone. Can be avoided opening tabs in the foreground only and being ready to speedclick that. I have see this thing in other browsers, too, but that means nothing because all of those browsers are Chromium based.
- Opening a second Twitch tab will not give you separate volume controls on it. By which I means the speaker icon on the tab in the tab bar. Only the first tab will have it and clicking it will mute all Twitch tabs. This one seems to be a exclusive issue with Twitch on Vivaldi introduced in the latest 6.6 update. YouTube in Vivaldi does not have this issue. Twitch in Edge does not have this issue (but might be based on an older Chromium build).
-
@Zalex108 Oh no I didn't add those. I haven't needed to change my registry in years. I'm sorry I thought you wanted me to add them.

@SpeedingTurtle said in Twitch Tab Volume:

I always Open in a New Tab. I tried opening in a background tab, was not able to open the tab in time to see the prompt you described. But, when I did go to close that second muted tab, there was half a second of sound from it. Weird!

- OK It USED to give separate volume controls/speaker icon in each tab, until a few days ago for me. So you're saying it was introduced in the latest 6.6 update. OK. What can I do from here? Would submitting a support ticket to report it help? Please let me know. Yes I tested in Chrome and Firefox, but not Edge.
Thank you everyone for helping me look into this.
Can I go back to the previous version? I see 6.5 there but doubting I can install that without removing something.
