[With Hitman Pro] A flood of Vivaldi-related errors in Windows Event Viewer...
-
@netarchitech I found the internal report now:
VB-102050 "Child processes crash on injection of our security driver (doesn't happen on other Chromium based browsers)." - Not confirmed yet, no dev assigned; i pinged dev team. -
@DoctorG Thanks for the assistance and support...I really appreciate it!

For those of you whom might be interested, the following link points to an in-depth explanation of the 0xc0000005 error that is at the root of the flood of errors I've been receiving:
-
Since I have been advised by HMPA Support to uninstall Vivaldi 64-bit and install Vivaldi 32-bit in its' place to workaround the Error Flood, I found myself wondering if there is any benefit to running a 32-bit program in a 64-bit OS? Here's what I found:
Given the information presented in the linked article, I'm starting to think I'll permanently uninstall Vivaldi 64-bit and just run Vivaldi 32-bit...That should solve the Error Flood and provide for a smaller Memory footprint
With that said, I'm wondering if there is someone out there who can make a point for keeping Vivaldi 64-bit and patiently wait for the Vivaldi devs to take a look at the Error Flood situation...

@netarchitech
Hi, fine as workaround but it limit Vivaldi to use more than 3 GB, too. If you not a tab horder no problem.Cheers, mib
-
Hi @mib2berlin,
Good points! I hadn't thought of the tab situation...I do like stacked tabs, but I don't think I'm a tab hoarder...yet!
Now that I'm looking at the number of child processes in the screenshot above and the resulting use of memory, I may have to stick with Vivaldi 64-bit or overcome my stacked tab addiction
Cheers, netarchitech

@netarchitech
You can reduce memory with tab hibernation, use tab context menu or use the Memory Saver.
Open chrome://settings/performance
and enable it.
You get more options with the flag:
vivaldi://flags/#memory-saver-multi-state-mode -
@mib2berlin Sounds good...Thanks for the tip...I really appreciate it!
-
@netarchitech I have been following your topic and it is nice to see things getting identified and reported.
-
@EricJH Thanks for following up...I really appreciate the support! I'm looking forward to the resolution of this situation hopefully sometime soon, but, in the meantime, I'm learning more about Vivaldi...Hats off to the Devs...This is more than just a Browser, it's a Swiss Army Knife!
-
@mib2berlin I tried the flag you mentioned and, unfortunately, Vivaldi locked up...Should I enter the chrome statement first to enable the Tab Hibernation, then enter the flag statement to access the additional options?
-
@netarchitech
Hm, makes no difference for me but flags are always experimental, leave it as default if you get problems.
As mentioned, you can hibernate workspaces and tabs manually, the automatic memory saver does it by usage of tabs.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Given that I'm dealing with the Error Flood, I'm thinking I'll hold off on the experimental flags for now...In the meantime, I toggled the Memory Saver on and set the Tab Inactivity to 30 minutes...I also specified a number of sites that I always want to keep active...I'll see how these settings affect performance...As you mentioned, I can always hibernate tabs (and workspaces) manually...
Thanks again for the tips!
Cheers, netarchitech

@netarchitech Did a install of Vivaldi 32bit version fixed it?
-
@DoctorG I haven't had a chance yet, but it's next on the agenda...I will report back as soon as I finish and check the Event Viewer...Thanks for checking in and following up!
-
Please test the issue with a Vivaldi 6.6 Snapshot (what is a Snapshot) as Standalone install version, that will not tangle your Vivaldi Stable Settings in case of issues in Snapshot.
I will update the tracker later after you tested! -
Hi,
To recap,
Disabling for a while HMP and running V, the Events reports are gone?
HMP Support suggested to run V x86 to avoid the reports--
Right?
-
@DoctorG @Zalex108 @EricJH @mib2berlin Success!!! The Error Flood stopped as of 6:02AM EST...
Thanks to all of you for your time, assistance and support...Thanks also to Rick @ HitManPro Support for providing the workaround and the previously submitted "bug" report (VB-102050)...
@DoctorG The Snapshot is up and running...Should I just use the Snapshot going forward and uninstall the old 64-bit Vivaldi installation? If so, should I install my old Profile in the Snapshot?
-
@netarchitech said in A flood of Vivaldi-related errors in Windows Event Viewer...:
The Snapshot is up and running
Which is running? The 64bit or 32bit Snapshot?
-
@DoctorG The 32-bit Snapshot...
