Unsolved Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders

Now, I only saw reports from Linux users on this. There may have been others I did not see. And Vivaldi probably values Linux users above other software developers, because Vivaldi has 'WAY more Linux users by proportion than the general population, and many Vivaldi devs (far more than average) are themselves Linux users. But within a single version cycle, the bug was addressed and fixed. This is not just acceptable. This is remarkable.

Some time ago there was an official post stating that Vivaldi for Linux makes about 20% of the total Vivaldi user base, that's hardly a minority. It could be even bigger now, since Linux users appreciate customizability more than anyone.

9345 views means a lot of unregistered lurkers and just because Microsoft Windows users are casual users who don't probably use Speed Dial folders, or more than 5 open tabs, it doesn't mean that the bug wasn't there for Microsoft Windows as well.

You can't really include this major, annoying to hell bug with 4999 others, as this bug is affecting the #1 thing people see and interact with, the Speed Dial, which itself has been the #1 feature of Vivaldi, legacy of Opera Presto. Using a Speed Dial folder is not the same as using some "bizarre, exotic" feature of Vivaldi that doesn't "cooperate" well with some other random setting.

P.S.1 The bug isn't totally fixed yet, just a workaround was provided.
P.S.2 And 5000 open bugs for a Stable do not make a good picture either, I wouldn't mention this.

@npro I think you may overestimate the impact on users, and underestimate the effort required to resolve the bug.

I have nearly 25 instances of Vivaldi on eight devices with 3 users here, including Android phone and tab, Win 10 and Win 11 machines, Arch Linux, and never experienced the bug. Nothing I had here, on any version, could produce it. The fact that it was tracked down and fixed is still, like I say, remarkable.

I can tell the same: 6 different instances of Vivaldi on different hardware and always experienced the bug.
in the end I am left with the doubt that it has not yet been understood what it depends on

Right, I will confirm that it is NOT fixed! It happens far FAR less often then before but it still happens.
Before if I would access speed dials 100 times, it would happen 80-90 times, now it happens 10 times or less. It's a massive improvement and for now I am happy with the results. Let's wait and see what happens upstream.

Vivaldi '6.5.3206.38 (Offizieller Build) snapshot (64-Bit)' on Ubuntu 22.04 here.

Many thumbnails in the speed dials are not showing up. When I start an 'Update Thumbnails' in the Bookmark view, it starts updating the thumbnails.
After a certain number of thumbnails, Vivaldi is crashing.

Is that connected to the issue discussed here?
Is there a solution around?
Can I help in any way to debug this?

If it is of any interest. I have the thumbnail issue with Vivaldi on Debian 12, Linux Mint Ulma, Xubuntu and Windoze 11. Windows 11 is a bit different I runing it using VMware player, there is a written discription instead of just a blank Thumbnail.

Where can I down load a older version of Vivaldi? I asked this before any didn't get an answer. This bug is a real PIA and I do not have the time or patience to click back and fort a half a dozen times to get it to work.

Bug has now been fixed, i'm assuming in a recent update. Pretty stable all week at least in Linux Os's. Thanks to the Developers and Happy Holidays to support who take care of these things (also to the people who kept the conversation going on this one) . Nice to get this one out of the way!

@waburden The bug has NOT been fixed! Please don't spread false information! There are some of us (including me) who are still experiencing it every now and then, far far less often then before but still there.

@bogdanjelescu Not intending to spread false information. As my comment indicated, it appears to be fixed in my LInux Os's - namely Ubuntu and Pop-Os. Can't speak for Windows or other Users. I run on multiple devices and they all appear to be stable.

Seems to work a bit better with 6.5.3206.42 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit). on Linux Mint una. some thunb nails have pictures others writng.

Hi, I guess this is a different issue, blank thumbnails and missing thumbnails.
The blank thumbnails appear when you leave a speed dial folder and back the missing thumbnails not.
This are the blank ones:

I don't have any blank thumbnails since Vivaldi 6.5.

bookmark thumbnail is sometimes lost
is not fixed, the developer work on it.

I disabled bookmarks in sync and reloaded thumbnails stay then, if I enable bookmarks some are wiped after some time.

This problem appeared after Vivaldi developers moved images, some of which were previously stored inside Bookmarks in base64 format -> to the VivaldiThumbnails folder.
