@Levrini Yes, still a unfixed and known bug.

@nutcracker: So if you enable the extensions, it crashes right? Can you tell us which extensions you use?
If it crashes on start-up, kinda hard to list them all...
The ones I remember are only BitWarden and uBlock Origin, but I definitely do have more.
-
@gryzor have a look at the
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Extensions
folder.
Themanifest.json
in the (versioned) subfolder will tell what it is.
With some web search, the folder names can also be mapped to the installed extensions. -
@lionsson: Thanks, we are looking at it. Two other people here also submitted crash logs. All three of you are indeed having the same crash. Your logs look pretty much identical.
Nonetheless if anyone else is reading this and thinks, "That is good, now I do not need to submit"… that may not be true. I am suspecting that there might actually be 2 or 3 different crashes here and people are assuming they are the same. So if you do have a crash, submit it! This is the only way for us to be sure and best way to ensure that we fix everything.

Do deactivated but installed extensions count?
-
@deneban In rare cases deactivation of a extension does not solve a issue.

@gryzor: I took the following steps:
- Copied from "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" the extension folders, i.e. "Extension Rules, Extension Scripts, Extension State, Extensions" to a safe (backup) place on my computer to keep all my extensions, in case of failure
- Deleted the contents of all the above folders, i.e. no extensions anymore
- Re-added from scratch all extensions from the web store
That worked for me but I'm not taking any responsibility that it'll work for anybody else.

Thanks. So deleting the relevant folder equals somewhat to actually uninstalling it from within the browser for you?

Crash log submitted.
-
@gryzor: I deleted the CONTENTS of the folders, leaving them empty AFTER I copied all these folders (full as I found them) to a place in my computer as a precaution, in case I might needed to put them back. So Vivaldi didn't find any extension in those folders. This worked for me but - as I said - I cannot guarantee anything.

Oh right, understood. The disclaimer, too

@ruarí: Perhaps this will help for one or another: As I use Vivaldi as my back up browser I never installed any extension. But a check showed there were 3: "Block & Skip Ad", "Smart Blocker", and "Soso Act". I deleted all 3 extensions, closed Vivaldi 6.2.3105.4, rebooted W10. After starting 6.2.3105.4 again I went to Help > Check for Updates. And it worked. I am underway with 6.5.3206.28 finally now. Thanks for helping & CU. Lionsson

Could have been a "shareware/freeware" program or an other browser installed such extensions in older Vivaldi.

My browser also crashed due to extensions, I tried to find out which one was causing it, but in the end I couldn’t, because I fixed the crash using the following method:
- I rolled back the browser to version 6.5.3201.4 (it was on this version that everything worked for me without problems), went to the extensions menu and disabled them all.
- I updated the browser to the latest version, after the update I enabled the extensions that I needed.
After that it didn't crash anymore.

This is great news, thanks for sharing!

Actually, one question, how did you roll back?

Yup, I did get the snapshot, but trying to install it tells me a newer version is already set up... And all I can find by looking how to downgrade is "uninstall newer, install older".
-
@gryzor: I have Windows 10 x64, I just downloaded the old build and ran it, I didn’t get any warnings.
