[Bug] Floorp 11.6.0 no longer respects the Title Bar option #586
In Floorp 11.5, the option to show a title bar worked.
In Floorp 11.6.0, the option to show a title bar has no effect.Sounds relevant to me

I'll fix it

@npro oh well done!

here's my workaround
and here's my new workaround idea ["workaround#2"], trialling it now irl:
- moved webpanel bar back to lhs from rhs
- tst remains enabled, & on lhs [ie, now has the collapsed webpanel bar at its lhs, & the actual tab pages at its rhs]
- enabled floorp native vertical tabs, set to auto-collapse, & moved to rhs
proposed workflow with this new workaround idea
- all "ordinary" daily, moment-to-moment, browserising will occur with me controlling everything from the lhs of floorp; using all the
tst
goodness, & accessing my webpanels as-needed on-demand on-the-fly. - on the comparatively rarer occasions i need to move tabs to other workspaces, &/or use the new splitview / tabstiling, i'll move my mouse to the rhs, which will "auto-uncollapse" the native vertical tabstrip, then use the relevant floorp context menu items to achieve the intended objective/s
- iterate dot#1, until next time i might need to again do dot#2
yes, ofc it's annoying to have to lose some horizontal pixels in "wasted space" for the collapsed floorp vertical tabs strip, but otoh this will be a much more convenient way to take advantage of the floorp context menu items [whilst doing that little dance in the preferences - design webpanel works fine, it involves a few more clicks than this new idea, hence has more "friction"].

from https://9to5linux.com/mozilla-firefox-120-is-now-available-for-download-heres-whats-new;
this function has been available in
nightly
for months. atm infloorp
[esr 115.0] it is not available... in thepreferences - privacy & security
tab. i dunno how long before the floorp dev will rebase to the next esr version [Firefox ESR 115.5], but til then, fwiw, here's how we can still have the functionality in our current floorp, albeit not visually present in that preferences tab.from https://blog.mozilla.org/netpolicy/2021/10/28/implementing-global-privacy-control/;
- Type about:config in the URL bar of your Firefox browser.
- In the search box, type
globalprivacycontrol
. - Toggle
privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled
to true - Toggle
privacy.globalprivacycontrol.functionality.enabled
to true - visit https://globalprivacycontrol.org/. The website will flag if the GPC signal has been detected
here's my own floorp's result there;
woot!
i prepared this post using our new native split-view function, keeping this page fixed in the lhs pane, then varying each of the source tabs i needed to use, in the variable rhs pane. it worked a treat!
i also accessed the native context menu items needed, via my "workaround#2" as above. it also worked a treat!
more & more i am enjoying "floorping around the interwebs"

I wonder what took them so long
hmmmm, trouble at mill
https://linuxiac.com/endeavouros-galileo-releases/
the Galileo release was expected to appear earlier but was slightly delayed by its developers. It has now come to light that one concerning reason for this setback is the departure of some of the original developers from the project.
Unfortunately, most of the original devs left the project and thereβs nobody who picked it up from them to make them work with each Calamares update.
Hopefully, ... new developers come aboard this fantastic project
-
-
@ybjrepnfr Well this concerns only their "community" editions of window managers, so it's not that tragic as that article presents it
Our community editions Sway, Qtile, BSPWM, Openbox, and Worm arenβt available anymore through the Calamares installer. Unfortunately, most of the original devs left the project and thereβs nobody who picked it up from them to make them work with each Calamares update. For a while the core dev. team picked up the work, but we had to make this decision in order for the project to go forward.

Being also a fresh Floorp newbie, I don't know either if they stick to Firefox's ESR schedule, I think it's once a year and it jumps 8 versions? I 'd also like to see an upgrade in that department as I 'd want the awesome
local translation
to be integrated natively as it is with the 118? 119? version. -
@npro Fixed in 11.6.1 as promised
-
@npro yes, i thought you'd be happy! heehee. pretty good, eh; two updates in two days! though, re its associated FF version, this surprised me:

want the awesome local translation to be integrated natively as it is with the 118? 119? version
it's working nicely for me already [albeit ofc it would be nice if they greatly expanded* the available languages]:

but maybe i've misunderstood what you really meant?
* one or two
nightly
versions ago we had the ability to >double the available languages, & i enabled them all. when i did yesterdays update to v122 i was sad to see that all those extra ones have been removed again, so now nightly's no better atm than floorp... haha, actually it's even worse, by one:Spoiler
-
@ybjrepnfr 115.6... so it's not just up to date but way ahead lol
yeah actually I was a bit lazy, the integration of all Beta languages is missing, because with all those switches activated, the pop-up for those (Beta languages) does not... pop up, so you are left in the cold ...

woohoo, back to my original
floorp
profile, & thus, back tosidebery
,The latest Floorp update t'other day to 11.6.1 gave us that lovely new surprise gift, "Split-View", which is more or less a cool two-pane side-by-side tab-tiling function. Given that's the arrangement i use 95%+ of the time with the AO
Tile Tabs WE
[& also Vivaldi itself, btw], that AO is now essentially redundant, so i've disabled it. Today i realised some consequential matters:-
When i created my current-til-now "Native" profile [TST + Floorp Workspaces] on 21/10, an important benefit was that TST works reliably with TTWE, whereas Sidebery does not.
-
My original Floorp "Daily" profile [Sidebery + NO Floorp Workspaces] had the benefit of Sidebery's incredible versatility & control, but the disadvantage of TTWE's "fragility" with Sidebery.
-
Now, since i no longer need to rely on TTWE for tiling, & given that whilst Tree Style Tab [& its companion] AOs are very good for all my tab management needs, i still miss Sidebery's superb tab management tools, so i realised today that i can now return to my original profile once again.
-
Even though this decision ipso facto means once more using Sidebery's "tab panels" instead of Floorp's native Workspaces [coz sidebery is incompatible with floorp's native workspaces; bad unhappy things happen when using both together], i'm happy to accept that constraint for all the other benefits that Sidebery gives me over TST [which ofc for years was my gold standard, til i discovered Sidebery].

,yep, sidebery could be (is) the best out there, it's really satisfying using it, and its awesome panels are containerized "workspaces" in a sense already. But, there are some problems with it, for example mouse gestures: Gesturefy's "close other/left/right tabs" closes all tabs from various panels . I haven't managed to solve that issue yet. And if one enables workspaces as a solution for that matter, then it becomes pretty messy, having to manage workspaces and panels. In that sense tst is probably better for me, despite really liking sidebery for its amazing tab (group) management. And maybe there's some hope in seeing it improving (like.. temporary=true as a tab group title, c'mon... sidebery solves it elegantly), now that it's considered - as you already said - somehow "official".
Also how do you use Split-View with just sidebery's vertical tab bar, I haven't seen a menu entry for that there (yet?)
Another prob is... if we start canceling "native" features [and using Firefox's hacks/methods (about:profiles, hiding native tabs with CSS etc)], then I can see an Arching Nightly Firefoxes thread coming

ah, you see, i never encounter this problem [which i agree would be extremely annoying], coz i explicitly chose to not use that specific
gesturefy
mouse action. i use m/a via g all the time, but only a small subset of the total available:this static pic looks silly coz its arrows imply opposite directions to reality, given many of my m/g are physically multi-stroke
instead, for bulk tab closing, i use that inbuilt functionality in
tst
&, now once more, insidebery
. the specific sidebery closure method that i most strongly missed with tst, is the single-action mmb click & swipe down the full range of contiguous tabs i wanna close, & bam, they're gone. it's so fab. similarly on a collapsed stack, via right-click on the cross icon of the group. tis off-topic here coz ain't related to closure, but another of the joyous sidebery functions i missed with tst is the elegant way to rapidly create a tab group/stack just by right-click & swipe over the desired range of contiguous tabs i wanna group, then clicking the group icon in the auto context menu that appears. it is so fabulous, & tbh it's all these examples & more that made me unable to keep loving vivaldi like i did for all the years from 2015, before i discovered tst & later sidebery.if one enables workspaces as a solution for that matter, then it becomes pretty messy, having to manage workspaces and panels
omz, you should consider yourself extremely lucky if the worst outcome for you was just "messy", coz for me, both times i attempted to use sidebery AND floorp's native workspaces, it all turned to shit like i've written about before; very unreliable... unusable... & my second attempt was with building a clean profile. this was the exact reason that i have these two separate profiles [actually, four]:
...in which- Daily =
sidebery
+floorp
's native workspaces DISabled - Native =
tst
+floorp
's native workspaces ENabled [3 created]
temporary=true as a tab group title, c'mon
i know, right ... that's pretty amateurish, compared to sidebery's elegance as you rightly say.
how do you use Split-View with just sidebery's vertical tab bar
ah, no no, that's not what i do. remember up above i mentioned that i have developed my "workaround#2"... that was for my
Floorp_Native
profile [ie,tst
]. well, since jumping back now to myDaily
profile [ie,sidebery
] i have continued using workaround#2:so for all my daily moment-to-moment browsing, i'm using sidebery + my webpanels, both on the lhs. when i, less frequently, need to tile two tabs via our whizzy new Split View feature, i temporarily focus my attention on the browser rhs; select the two target tabs in floorp's native vertical tabs strip, invoke the context menu, enable the split:
I can see an Arching Nightly Firefoxes thread coming
oh you beauty! what a ripper idea... i now fully expect that within the next 24 hours you will have created this new thread for us!

-
@npro @ybjrepnfr do you happen to know the reasoning behind this decision (i.e. removing the beta languages from the face of the earth)? I searched in various nightly blogs & notes but couldn't find any info
-
@npro no i have seen nothing about it. it was pure accident that i discovered it [given since changing to floorp i only occasionally fire up nightly nowadays]. i also subscribe to nightly notes & nightly news rss channels, but they've not mentioned it either.
haha, panic over. i just launched it, then relaunched it for the latest update, then checked. they're ba-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

-
@npro heehee. ofc this does not help us yet for floorp, but it does imply at least some hope that a future esr ergo floorp update, might give us these extra goodies.
