Issue when pressing enter on address bar
-
Yeah this is egregious. The workaround breaks basic browser functionality entirely (autocompleting history). Sad to say I'll probably leave Vivaldi for good if this isn't fixed quickly.
-
There's been a strangely large number of issues with the address bar since October 2022. It feels like one thing is fixed and then some other issue is introduced. I would love to go back to pre October 2022 address bar... now I've got constant problems with the auto complete.
-
I am, too, suffering from this issue. To me it feels like Vivaldi's search bar functionality has been generally much slower than it used to be (change happened maybe after this summer?) and this issue is just the newest instance of the trouble. I really hope this issue and the sluggishness of the autocomplete can be fixed asap, it's basic browser functionality.
I am really disheartened with the situation as I have come to depend on Vivaldi for its usually rock solid foundation and features.

This is happening to me too and it is a minor but annoying enough that I am going to swtich back to firefox until it is fixed.
-
@BrikoX This, unfortunately, did not fix the issue for me
OS: macOS Sonoma 14.1
Vivaldi: 6.4.3160.41 (Stable channel) (arm64) -
Unchecking browser history fixed it for me too.

Vivaldi browser on Windows 10: Until the last month or so, clicking on the 'V' in the upper left corner produced a multi-level menu of valuable options. For example, you could check whether you had the latest version of Vivaldi,
you could get to browser extensions, you could restore your tabs (which Vivaldi manages to lose all too often).
And many other options. Where can I find that menu now that clicking the 'V' does nothing? -
Unchecking history fixes it for me as well. I'm really getting sick of Vivaldi introducing so many bugs on basic functionality. I get a new feature, but something that exists across every browser? Come on. And now it'll be months before they decide to fix it.
-
Another Vivaldi update came through, and still no fix for this deal-breaking bug. Unchecking history IS NOT A FIX. It is a bypass hack that disables a key functionality. It is depressing to see that Vivaldi went from by far the best web browser available, to more of the same - with bugs introduced all the time, no response from the devs, and weeks and months before any fix is in the horizon. Time to abandon ship. I don't need yet another browser that doesn't give a damn.

@mackhax0r @baozzhao
This bug
VB-99872
"Pressing enter in address bar is slow with large history"
is fixed in an internal build an tester and developer test it at moment.

Same problem. This makes Vivaldi very frustrating to use since I almost exclusively navigate by typing URLs and letting autocomplete take me there.
-
Still the same problem
-
@AImXOo0o Issue was fixed in a Snapshot (What is a Snapshot?).
ā https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/something-for-the-weekend-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-3201-4/ -
@DoctorG Thank you for the link.
But when will the snapshot be "live"?Or can I overwrite my current installation with this snapshot?
-
@AImXOo0o You can install Vivaldi Snapshot as Standalone install version, that will not tangle your Vivaldi Stable Settings in case of issues in Snapshot.
-
This update needs to drop ASAP. Waiting 10 sec +++++ for one page is some really annoying bullshit, how can this not be prioritized?!?!?

@fredrikfreij
Hi, because this happen only for some users.
I can open a tab in miliseconds, using links or the address bar.
The bug VB-99872
Pressing enter in address bar is slow with large history
is fixed in the snapshot (Beta build), need to be tested from user and then it will land in the next stable 6.5 or in a update of 6.4. -
Same problem here with Vivaldi 6.4.3160.47 on Windows 11, it broke a month or two ago.
-
And after this update all search queries are cutoff. If i write a sentence, only the first letters are searched for when pressing enter. Wtf is this....
