Unsolved Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders
-
Interesting.
For me moving one of the tiles around only fixes two adjacent tiles. I have to go and give all the tiles a wiggle if there are more than two of them.

yes, exactly Vivaldi introduced a new mini-game it seems

- Windows 10, newly installed 3160.33 and 34, default speed dial, unable to reproduce the error.
- Arch Linux + LXQt, 3160.33,historical configuration, 100% reproduction.
- Arch Linux + LXQt, 3160.34,newly installed with total default settings, I got another wrong way: Create a folder by dragging the stacked speed dial icon and enter the folder, then drag the speed dial icon out of the folder. At this time, all the icons will be blank when returning to the upper layer.

please don't pollute this holy, dedicated sub-forum-oasis with this particular sequence of characters with a number - abomination !

BTW ... someone above was speculating that this problem may be related to AMD procs.
I am using an older Intel proc, a 3770K, and I have the problem.
-
@d_canard yes, both Intel and AMD are affected and numerous distros with different
mesa
versions, so it should be a Vivaldi bug. There hasn't been an nvidia user coming up and confirming this issue though. -

Up to date Vivaldi.
Linux Mint 20.1, slightly newer version than on my desktop.
Same kernel.
Intel Core I-7 2600K
nVidia GT-1030 silent graphics card. The problem is there.

Very nice . Nouveau or the proprietary driver?

The proprietary driver. When I used to run games in WINE, I found that generally the performance of the proprietary driver was better. So I just stuck with it even though I do not game much anymore on any platform.

Even better. So we've covered basically everything, let's hope for a fast resolution with the next update. Hopefully the link to this thread was added to the report as well.

@npro Testing as many different operating systems as possible can help troubleshoot problems.
-
@Aaron we would have known about other OSes the moment I first mentioned it 1 month ago,
but no one else (outside Linux) confirmed it or wrote about such thing for a whole month in every Snapshot thread since then and in the general "Desktop" and that "other" OS forum

I just experienced the same issue. Suddenly, all thumbnails were black and nothing was clickable. After a few minutes, things started to come back slowly. but not all yet. It seemed to specifically affect grouped thumbnails in my case. Sometimes they go black again for a short time.

I just encountered a similar problem. Out of nowhere, all the thumbnail images turned black and became unresponsive.

Getting similar results in POP-OS as of 10-29-2023. I doubt this issue is hardware related based on the foregoing. I'm about to check Ubuntu to see if it is also affected but I strongly suspect that the OS platform is not the issue since it seems to be happening in several OS platforms. Vivaldi has always been so stable and this is a bit disappointing!

Right. I'm experiencing it too! And it happens very very often.

Same problem here. It doesn't play all the time, but it does play frequently. When the problem occurs, if I go back and click again, it usually works fine.

@waburden Confirmed in latest Ubuntu O/S. As a former SQA Specialist, I generally find interface issues like this the most aggravating, especially ones so heavily used.
-
This issue should never have slipped into Stable, considering it affects basically the Main Page everyone is looking at/working with, unfortunately it seems that Vivaldi based on Chromium 118 wasn't tested enough and/or some work trying to fix Bookmarks which could be responsible for this mess ( https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/681444) was not finished 100% . I think everyone got the impression that it was a pretty rushed/problematic release. This can be seen also from the changelog, too many fixes -of a rather short list- are related to Mail & Calendar and not to the browser itself, contrary to older releases. I think developing the iOS version took all of the resources this time hence this result.

@d_canard This solution works but i'm wondering if this provides a clue for the issue since tab expansion seems to be uncontrolled of late. What I mean by this is sometimes when I look up at the tabs there are about 3 times more than there should be, and i'm wondering what is generating these extra tabs????
