Solved Sign in with Google dialog keeps popping up
-
Yeah, I know it is frustrating because I used Vivaldi Mail shortly after the start and got no popups, then I even moved my tech illiterate parents on to it and it never asked me for the popups.
Just finished installing the new update to 6.2.3105.48. Still get the popups on launch every time.

I thought I should put a log of ~13 hrs of me getting popups since I was home sick. This is greatly reduced compared to what they were, but still erratic. I have anonymized the email addresses thus
GoogleAccount#1 through #7, SasktelAccont#1 and #2, YahooAccount#1
~ means I did not notice exactly when the popup came up. Google popups I just click on the account which brings me to the "you already have access to that" Vivaldi Screen. The Yahoo Popup is a login and then a TOTP or Mail Code.

I couldn't take the constant pop-ups and the lack of feedback. I broke. I went back to using App Passwords. Let me know when you get your act together over OAuth and Version 6.2. I might help you give it a whirl.

Listen, this is my first post here and it's for the sole purpose of giving Vivaldi a chance before I make any decisions... I love this browser so I hope this actually gets resolved.
So after reading all the replies, what I understand is:
This is basically supposed to be an "additional privacy feature".Now I understand this might improve my privacy and you're always looking for ways to make this browser more secure and everything... but does that mean I'll have to deal with a pop-up that appears randomly every single time I open my laptop (while vivaldi is already running, didn't even close it) and sometimes just randomly.
Me and you both know nobody wants to deal with that. And if some people are ready to do so, then at least give us the option to not "limit google services to it's own bubble" and just use vivaldi as it used to be before the update.
I understand the feature is helpful but I don't think it's even supposed to be that annoying. In my case, whether I closed vivaldi or not, it just pops up unprovoked, without any reason. I almost never close vivaldi, only when I have to restart it for an update.
You provide the feature to block pop-ups, ads and trackers but you've created your own pop-up... WHAT'S THE POINT THEN?
I hope this gets resolved quickly. I would hate to leave the browser for such a small but irritating issue.
Regards,
Ahmed -
@A7mo
Hi an no, this is not a new Vivaldi feature.
Some user report this if they use Google mail and/or Google calendar.
I use Google mail and calendar but don´t get the popup, try to disable the feature in vivaldi://settings/general/
for a test. -
@mib2berlin I mean... I use Vivaldi mail, so your solution is to basically ditch the entire thing.
Though not Ideal, I'll disable it to see if it helps.
Thanks @mib2berlin, though I'd like people from Vivaldi to look into the issue.
Hopefully this works and allows me to forget about the issue.

@A7mo
There are reports in the Vivaldi bug tracker, the developer look into at moment.
You use the Vivaldi mail client with a Gmail account, is this correct?
Some user report remove and add the account solve the issue but this is only possible with an IMAP account and you have to fetch all mails again. -
@A7mo I use Vivaldi Mail and Calendar as well, and have never suffered this. I'm not sure it's entirely clear why it happens. Some Google and Yahoo users who log in via OAuth2 have reported it, and some don't seem to be able to resolve it, even following advices from here.
As I said, I have never seen it, and am not entirely sure what causes it.
But as long as you have 3rd party cookies enabled, and are individually signed in to each service on Google or Yahoo (or even Vivaldi Webmail for that matter) to which you subscribe, it should stop happening. This is not anything Vivaldi is doing on purpose. It appears to be something caused OAuth protocol changes Vivaldi had to make to work with changes Google made in Chromium 116.
Behind the scenes, devs are trying to track this bugger down and banish it.

I do use google calendar and usually keep it open as a downloaded shortcut, I hope this is not part of the issue.
If it's only because I'm using Vivaldi mail, then I'm more than happy to stop using it.
For now, I'll wait and see if the issue persists after disabling mail, calendar and feeds. Thanks @mib2berlin and moderator @Ayespy for the quick replies.

@A7mo
Hello and welcome here!Have fun with the browser, the forum and on "Mastodon": 'VIVALDI SOCIAL', social.vivaldi.net.
You can now create your own signature if you like.
-
@A7mo It's not simply because you are using Vivaldi Mail. I use it on all my instances, and don't have the bug.
It could have something to do with multiple services, either logged in through a tab, or through the mail/calendar/feeds function.
-
@A7mo said in Sign in with Google dialog keeps popping up:
keep it open as a downloaded shortcut
I'm not sure what that means exactly (a speed dial to Google Calendar, a desktop shortcut you used to open a tab and which you never close?) but that sounds to me like a plausible cause of your problem - everyone else(*) using Google mail and/or calendar will be using the built-in client which will save the OAuth details when first requested... I can imagine that reopening a desktop shortcut could trigger Google to request the OAuth credentials again! Or maybe something in that shortcut points to unique information which clashes with your logged-in credentials (e.g. there's something in there linked to the time and date you saved the shortcut).
(*) by "everyone else" of course I mean most people on these forums

I'm not a very technical user, but would like to add my comment. I too am constantly receiving the 'Sign in with Google' popup. I received it 7 times in the time it took me to find this forum to comment. I leave my PC running 24x7. I use the email client and have a Google account configured. I typically have a tab open with Google Photos and/or Google Maps. I do use extensions.
After the some of the popups (not all), I get an email from Google saying "Vivaldi Mail & Calendar Client was granted access to your Google Account". Surely after granting access once, it shouldn't be required multiple times.
This is a new problem so I believe it came with the recent version update. It's driving me crazy and causing me to strongly consider returning to a different browser - unless of course Vivaldi can find a proper solution.

@nschloss I wish we could find a way to reliably reproduce this. My situation is similar to yours, except I never get these "sign in with Google" notifications. But then, I never "sign in with Google" or "sign in with facebook." That is an action which is NOT the same as signing in TO Google. It's using your Google identity to sign in to some other unrelated service.
In my case, I have four gmail accounts I'm signed into all the time, and on one of these I use the calendar. I don't use Google photos, but I often sign in to Google Maps (the cookie is not durable, and signs me out after a few days). I keep my Win 11 machine on and Vivaldi open 24/7. I have 3 GMail accounts pinned open at all times. Again, no popups.
I don't use extensions, and I'm aware some of these may use your Google account, but I have tried various configurations, and can't produce the problem. Some people have reported success getting rid of it by disabling mail/feeds/calendar in Vivaldi, but I have these enabled and even have my Vivaldi internal calendar synced to a Google Calendar account, and still no problems.
It's a very vexing puzzle.

Tried something over the last few days. First, I went into Mail setup and checked 'Take Account Offline' for my Gmail account. Then I waited for a couple of days - no more 'Sign in with Google' popups! Next, I unchecked 'Take Account Offline' for my Gmail account. Still no popups! But, then, I tried sending an email from my Gmail account, and immediately received the popup. Darn! See attached for my account authorization after re-enabling the account.
Does this provide any clues for support?

Found this error today as well if that helps

Hello, Guys,
as I suffer from persistent Google login messages as well, I have tried to observe the behaviour and had the ErrorLog / EventLog open seeing the entries just when the Google login window opened again. Maybe there is a helpful information to trace the issue:My Setup:
- A private and a business Laptop, both running WIN10 with latest Vivaldi stable version.
** Full installation on private laptop
** Portable (standalone) storage on business laptop - Both Vivaldi instances run my four private (IMAP) email accounts: GMX, Arcor, p..0(at)gmail.com, c...e(at)gmail.com
** Google Calender is connected only to p..0(at)gmail.com - Vivaldi on business laptop pops up google login dialog several times a day...
** only for p...0(at)gmail.com but not for c...e(at)gmail.com!
** typically when network connection is/was (even shortly <1sek) interrupted - Vivaldi on private laptop works without pop ups!
Recent event few minutes ago:
- Working on business laptop at home having a super stable wifi and internet connection. Vivaldi application open in one window, the DevTools Log window in 'console' mode open and visible in another window, I am actively working with another app.
- In the DevTools Log Window these messages poped up:
- a fraction of a second later the known Google login dialog poped up.
- and an error message in the mail workspace showed up:
In the DevTools log window the showed (collapsed) messages can be enlarged. The information doesn't look very helpful to me but is available on request.
HTH
cheers; Claus - A private and a business Laptop, both running WIN10 with latest Vivaldi stable version.

I see that this issue has been marked as "Solved" but I see no resolution and I am still having the pop-up sign-in request for Yahoo email. I have Vivaldi, Yahoo, Gmail, & Live, email accounts. Only the Yahoo account keeps popping up.
-
@PorkyRay Have you removed the Yahoo account from the mail client and added it back in?
Note that if you are using OAuth, if the account's main password is changed, the change automatically invalidates any OAuth token used for the account, in which a new login will establish a new token.
If the Yahoo account is not brand new, you can go into the security settings and set up an app password that can also be used, instead of OAuth.
