Vivaldi won't open - virtual address...does not have the appropriate access. ESET problem ?!
-
After several years, I ran away from Opera for MS Edge. I use the sidebar for Messenger/Whatsapp etc. Besides these two browsers, Vivialdi has what it needs. As I was looking for a replacement for Opera, I installed Vivaldi, but after a few starts it stopped turning on. Without going into the problem, I chose Edge.
After a month I reinstalled Vivaldi and again the same problem. When I remove the Default directory from some directory, the browser starts. I turn it on and off a few times and the problem reappears. I played with directory permissions, but it didn't help.
minidump log says:The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

@StabiL Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
If you suspect the AV, just disable it temporarily while testing and see if it works then. I use Avast and can easily disable the shields for say 10 minutes or 1 hour so I can figure out if the AV causes some problem if I suspect it.
If it works after deleting the Default profile folder, might not be the AV but something else in your profile. Do you install a lot of extensions after installing for instance?

After disabling this feature, the browser starts correctly every time. The installation is fresh, I will go through the configurator and that's it. I will disable the browser and I can't turn it on anymore.

I reported the problem to ESET, but unfortunately they require me to send, among other things, the full Windows registry file, which I consider an insecure solution. I also reported the problem to Vivaldi support, but so far I have not received any response. Is it customary that they do not respond to specific notifications?

@StabiL The bug is analyzed by devs and testers but rarely a reply is given, so keep note of the VB. About the registry, probably they want to see if their heuristic is blocking something used by vivaldi but I can understand you don't want to share the registry.
