BUG: When we click on an existing hotkey and press the DELETE key, it doesn't delete...
-
In settings for "keyboard", when we click on an existing hotkey and press the DELETE key, it doesn't delete. As a workaround, we have to deselect the hotkey and try again to make it delete. Please fix.
[bug reported VB-98553]

@TsunamiZ Works for me 6.1.3035.111 Windows 11 Version 22H2 (Build 22621.1928)
Please check Troubleshooting issues.

everything on my side is fully updated too. note that i'm talking about pressing the DELETE key on the keyboard, not clicking the "clear shortcut" button.
-
@TsunamiZ For me the Del key on regular keyboard works to remove shortcut in field.
-
i am also using a regular keyboard. for me, it doesn't work on the first attempt to click to highlight the hotkey and then delete it with the DELETE key. so i have to click off the hotkey to deselect it and try again, and then it works on the second try.

it doesn't work on the first attempt to click to highlight the hotkey
I can not reproduce this with used and fresh profile.
Had you tested in test profile without any settings and extensions?
-
@TsunamiZ Your testing method is not thorough enough. If you want to make good bug reports that do not just get closed as invalid or duplicate you'll need to:
- ALWAYS test in a clean profile
- Check your issue also in a Snapshot release - maybe issue is already fixed there
- Find the exact steps needed to reproduce it - it might not be so obvious as you think it is
- Write up a step-by-step guide how to reproduce, in the clean profile
- Make sure to double-check your issue by restarting the clean profile and reproduce from scratch
- Wait for others to confirm and maybe find an existing bug report for the same issue
- If you can - provide screenshots or even better, a video
- Do NOT just write "Something don't work, please fix"
As for this issue, there is already a confirmed bug report - your issue is there, you are just not describing it well enough.
It works fine - UNTIL you change to another section in the hotkey settings. AFTER that - it's broken.

So the issue is there, you just do not describe it well enough and you do not wait for confirmation before making a bug report. -

Yes, most of TsunamiZ's reports are not reproducible because less information.
It works fine - UNTIL you change to another section in the hotkey settings. AFTER that - it's broken.
I can confirm this.

for me, the bug happens without needing to change to another hotkey section. example, i open "settings" and go to the hotkey for "bookmarks" [CTRL+B] and click it then press DELETE key to delete it, and it doesn't work on first try. so for me, my original description is correct. i don't know what all the conditions are for this bug to happen, but i'm not a paid tester and it's not my job to find out. hey, not my fault that vivaldi's bugs can be so random.

Nor am i.

Your latest reports and older ones were not really informative and reproducible.
And your attitude to report issues as "BUG:" is not useful. -
@TsunamiZ Then your issue cannot be reproduced, it will be closed as "Cannot Reproduce", either by paid tester or unpaid sopranos tester.
You will be wasting the time of testers, either paid or unpaid that could be spent diagnosing good bug reports - and you will waste your own time writing up a report that will be closed.
-
it's not my fault that vivaldi's bugs can be so random. for me, my original description is correct. and many of my bug reports have been confirmable. if there are any tricky bugs that occur only under mysterious conditions, then they will naturally need some back and forth troubleshooting to figure it out. i have lots of experience with giving feedback to various software over the years, so i'm very familiar with the process. you don't always get all the info in one go. if you don't like going through the troubleshooting process, and are easily frustrated, then you don't really seem like right type of person to volunteer for dealing with bug reports--maybe you should just let the paid vivaldi team handle it.

No, you got it the wrong way around - it's you that must go through the troubleshooting process, before you report a bug. It explicitly says so in the steps to perform before reporting:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/reporting-a-bug-in-vivaldi/What you instead do is write up a short summary of the bug, no more investigation and then jump to the bug form to make a report. This is not the way software developers want things to be done.
For a great read about how software developers want their bug reports, please see:
How to Report Bugs Effectively"If you have to report a bug to a programmer who can't be present in person, the aim of the exercise is to enable them to reproduce the problem. You want the programmer to run their own copy of the program, do the same things to it, and make it fail in the same way. When they can see the problem happening in front of their eyes, then they can deal with it."

Thanks for such suggestion, i will skip insufficient reports from all users in future. Let the internal handle this.

i know how bug reporting works, and i have lots of experience with it. i have made many successful bug reports that have led to many improvements for many programs over the years, not just vivaldi. devs respond to bug reports for further troubleshooting if needed to figure things out. you don't always get all the info in one go. but you are not a dev, so maybe it is hard for you to understand that. vivaldi uses this strange system of letting some forum volunteers handle their bug reports, because it is cheap. with a lack of professional bug report handling, no wonder vivaldi is so buggy for so long.
