Adding a bookmark
-
Hello everybody,
maybe I've overseen something somewhere, but it currently seems not possible to add an opened page as a new bookmark?
I only found the option to save a page to the reading list. But I want to add it as a bookmark. -

@papalpenguin, already shared where you can find the bookmarking option in the Vivaldi menu, but you can find more information about bookmarks on iOS on this Help page: https://help.vivaldi.com/ios/ios-bookmarks/bookmarks-in-vivaldi-on-ios/.

@jane-n I get how to add bookmarks, but how to add Speed Dials? The page you suggest says, "Speed Dials -
To learn about Start Page bookmarks, Speed Dials, on Android, check out the Help Page here." But none of that is a link. What I really want is a "custom start page" option, but it looks like Speed Dials is the only option so far. I can dig down into the Speed Dial panel and create a new entry, but I have to copy and paste in the URL. And it strips the URL to all lowercase when it saves the entry! Which totally fails because my custom page requires some uppercase chars.
The four icons below the entry lines include a version with uppercase, but it only works so long as Vivaldi remains foreground. Only the useless lowercase version gets saved to Speed Dials.
I reported this to Test Flight, but of course we never hear back from them. Is there some other option?

Speed Dials are just bookmark folders that are displayed on the Start Page. To add a bookmark to the Speed Dial without having to copy the link and manually enter the title:
- Open the main Vivaldi menu > Add Bookmark.
- Tap on "Edit" in the notification that appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Change the location of the bookmark to a Speed Dial folder. Speed Dial folders have four little squares on the folder icon.
- Tap "Done".
You can also change which bookmark folders appear on the Start Page. For example, you can create a new folder or edit an existing one and toggle on "Use as Speed Dial Folder".
Hope this helps.

@jane-n Thanks! I see now there are a lot of ways to create and edit bookmarks.
But the only link that works in iOS is the one I saved in Reading List! ALL of the other options strip the uppercase chars from my URL, whether I save the current page (opened from Reading List), or move a bookmark to Speed Dial.
Even bookmarks and Speed Dials saved in Windows Vivaldi, that work there, fail when synced to iOS. Apparently some bit of iOS code just can't use uppercase in bookmark URLs! But it can use uppercase letters from Reading List just fine...
I hope the devs are working on this!

@LorenAmelang, I couldn't find a ticket in our bug tracking system for it, so it's likely that the devs are not aware of it.
Please file a bug report on https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/ describing the issue in detail and include a link for devs to test with. -
@jane-n (VIB-240) Vivaldi for iOS Bookmarks and Speed Dials strip the URL to all lowercase when they save the entry!
I just verified this affects direct links to YouTube videos, which usually rely on some uppercase chars. Hope they fix it!

Thanks for the detailed report.

This problem still prevents adding many sites to the Speed Dial page. And there seems to be no way to set any other page to show automatically when opening Vivaldi for iOS. Please fix this!
That, and VIB-249 where I have to tap 5 or 10 times on any item in Vivaldi to get the tap recognized, make it unusable as my primary browser.
I feel bad about tying up a TestFlight slot...

@LorenAmelang
I unfortunately don't have any estimates for when the issues will be fixed, but our dev team is dong their best to fix as many bugs as possible.VIB-249 is a Chromium bug, so we'll need to wait for them to fix it.
