The results of the Custom Icons contest are in!

My congratulations to the winners, but also to the rest of the participants who have made a choice difficult
-
Giving ability to sync themes from Vivaldi would be cool
-
Hello everyone And I don't understand the theme of the main winner. I mean, many icons are not changed at all, but simply copied from the old Opera browser. This is not a pretence, but I just didn't understand this moment) or so it was possible to do. I'm confused))) Congratulations to the winners!
-
@denkuz, I think this is something you should ask those who have voted for this theme, preferences and tastes are very different for each one.
-
I'm talking about the fact that many icons are not modified, but simply taken from the old Opera. Perhaps it was possible. I just want to understand this moment for myself.
-
@denkuz, все значки, которые были изменены, были скачаны откуда-то, я не видел ни одной темы, где бы использовались пользовательские значки. Это было больше связано с использованием иконок, которые соответствовали бы остальной части темы.
All the icons that were changed were downloaded from somewhere, I haven't seen any theme where user-designed icons have been used. It was more about using icons that fit in with the rest of the theme.
-
Congrats!

@denkuz: Opresto and the neon theme are the only true winners. Sure, maybe the Opresto theme had the icons taken from the old Opera-Presto browser. But it's whatever. Simple and nice and I like that, all the other themes are too weird for my liking.

@Catweazle Several of the themes in the lineup appear to have user-designed icons. Mood Yellow and Vivaldi 2077 are 2 of them, and they got my vote mainly for that reason along with their consistency in design.
Mine are also sort of user-designed. They are more a remix of a remix. I took Vivaldi's default icons and made them thinner for the After Glow theme and I used that as a base for drawing the neon icons. Had to make several changes to make them look like neon signs.
Congrats to the other winners!

@nomadic, yours is the theme for which I voted, but congratulations for the third place, excellent result in view of so many great themes.
-
Congratulations to the winners!

@nomadic: Good morning everyone! That's what I'm talking about. I thought that I needed to take some icons as a basis and change them, but it turns out that it was possible to take some icons and just insert them into my theme without changing them (and not a small part of the icons) Then what is creativity here? I just sincerely don't understand this moment. It turns out that it was possible to find ready-made icons and just insert them into your theme. And everyone is happy?)))
-
@nomadic: I just have some resentment, since I tried to make icons based on the standard ones myself. I drew the wallpaper for my themes myself. In general, I tried to come up with something myself. And it turns out, it was possible to take everything ready from the Internet, insert it into your theme and everyone here will be happy? I'm just offended for the other participants who also tried to do something of their own.
-
@denkuz: That's the reality with community voting. Popularity counts more than originality but it's ok,you did great job. I'm happy to be in top 10 XD
-
Many thanks to all those who have put in a lot of effort and had the courage to post their work here.
And to all those who voted.
No work should be denigrated here and no one should be offended.
For me, there are many enrichments, all of which I will use.
@Vivaldi, this was a great idea.

@nomadic
One of these days you might want to post a photo of all your well-deserved gifts from Vivaldi.
Vivaldi will soon go bankrupt on you. There is already a photo of some of the gifts.

@manase: Hi! Unfortunately, it is and it is sad. No, you shouldn't be happy about it, because you should have been in the top five))) I am happy for the winners, but this moment is very unclear to me. Apparently I misunderstood the essence of the contest. Good luck to you.

Congrats to the winners! I completely agree with @denkuz. I tried to design some icons myself, but it turned out to be a lot harder than I initially thought. Since I'm studying software development, I thought getting a bit more familiar with tools like Figma might be a good idea. This contest was a nice push in that direction, although I gave up shortly after starting my first attempt. I realized it takes some serious skill to design UI elements/icons that are consistent, clear and pretty. That's why it feels wrong that some contestants who just submitted some ready-made icons won. Sure, in my attempt I looked at existing icons for inspiration, but it didn't even occur to me to just submit those.
But to end on a more positive note: the people who designed their own icons should be really proud, as they finished among some entries that submitted icons made by professionals. Enjoy the win and prizes, and please post some photos of your prize package!

I certainly don't see any reason to denigrate users who have used icons as is from some sources. Naturally it has merit that some have taken the trouble to design their own icons and what deserves admiration, but it happens as with artists who create collages, that is, using images already made to recompose new ones. I think it should also count that the composition as such of the theme is harmonious with the colors and icons chosen and in good taste, regardless of whether the icons are of their own design or not.
