Solved Netflix troubles Mac Os
-
Two days ago Spotify web player started skipping tracks without playing and then plays a few seconds of every 6th track if you restart playback then goes silent. I searched the forum for similar issues and found a post from 2020 (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/51466/spotify-web-player-stopped-working) that addresses the same issue but seemed to have been fixed with previous updates of the browser. Now it happened again.
I opened safari to see if it was perhaps spotify's problem and lo and behold it works fine there.
Cleaned Cookies, DNS flushed, History cleaned, hard restart, etc do not help.
Is anyone else having this issue and has anyone found a fix for it or will we have to wait for a Vivaldi update ?
Thanks in advance.

Ok we updated the current stable (6.0.2979.22) with signing that is done slightly differentlly and should work.
This will fix it for anyone who downloads or upgrades from now but we will need to produce a new build with a higher build number to enable autoupdates for those that have a broken build currently.
That will take a bit. If you are reading this and cannot wait, manually re-download 6.0.2979.22 again and overwrite your current stable.
The new (corrected) build has the following checksums:

@Fubero Where can we report the error?

ugh. same as most folks here. Mac OS desktop: Vivaldi, Prime, and Hulu all fail. I can login and perform some functions, but not play any videos. Someone mentioned Youtube—which is fine, as is tv.youtube. Google's Youtube always performs well, it seems.
I watch mostly via android app on my television setup, so i'm not hysterical about it—but it does suck. I wanted to catch a quick clip of The Diplomats, which is how I discovered the bug.
Hopefully next update will have a fix. Anyone have any pointer to an official statement from Vivaldi (or vendors)? Someone mentioned Netflix error page re. Error M7121-1331 which is pretty useless.

Thanks for the info.

But not the youtube video (totally fine!!)
Youtube is AFAIK not using the DRM functionality involved in this case, so that should work fine. Netflix&Co are requiring DRM, and something makes that fail for Vivaldi after our recent update.
A curious thing here is that you and @senbeinorimaki are both on M1-type systems, yet Chrome does not work for you, but does work for @senbeinorimaki , using the same build.
I wonder what the difference is? OS version perhaps?
@yngve great to have a Vivaldi Team member onboard the discussion.
I'm having same problems as other folks: MacOS 13.3.1 with Netflix, Prime, and Hulu all failing. Youtube, and tv.youtube work fine.My setup works on Safari and Chrome (with above vendors). I'm currently updating MacOS, but don't expect any improvement—and I don't know what an M1-type system is?
I assume y'all are working on a fix? As I mentioned in similar post I mostly watch via Android apps on television so not hysterical about it, but still kinda sucks. Any central location I can watch out for updates on this bug?

@mazal btw, i tried to edit my reply (for grammar) but it's now flagged as spam.

@Ruarí oh, this is great info and answers most of my questions (on another reply). I'd rather wait for a higher build via autoupdate. Can you narrow down how long "a bit" is? days? weeks? I'm not completely affected via MacOS desktop so I can wait (Mostly consume with Android/television apps). Just want schedule my anticipation—thx.

Did you see this:Edit: Oops, looks like you found it while I was typing.@Ruarí said in Netflix troubles Mac Os:
If you are reading this and cannot wait, manually re-download 6.0.2979.22 again and overwrite your current stable.
If you download the installer and run it again, it should fix it.
And the forum's anti spam is a bit harsh to new accounts since spammers often edit their posts with malicious links. Once you get some reputation (upvotes) it gets better.

@Ruarí fwiw, after upgrading to MacOS 13.4 (Apple M2 Max) from 13.1, Hulu now works.
Netflix and Prime continue to fail which I hope resolves after higer build, autoupdate.
-
@nomadic thank you! i appreciate the info and encouragement.
i'm hesitant to manually download—will it wipe out my carefully tweaked settings? I can pretty much follow the discussion, and look stuff up when necessary, but I'm not 100 as technically savvy as other folks here. I don't mind waiting for an autoupdate.
-
@mazal Your settings are NOT stored in /Applications/Vivaldi.app , so it's safe to download the latest "Vivaldi 6.0 for Mac" from https://vivaldi.com/download/ , delete the broken Vivaldi.app from /Applications , and install the updated build that you just downloaded.

I have reported the same issue in the following post,
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/87090/netflix-troubles-mac-os?page=1The problem is supposed to be fixed with the new revision of Vivaldi. Please go and try this.

There is a new update now (6.0.2979.23) that should resolve this for all users (once upgraded)

@wingkeiw Thanks for your reply. I have automatic updates on so it was the most recent version of Vivaldi
However,
After posting the above yesterday I decided to delete and uninstall Vivaldi completely.Installed a fresh download from the website and the problem is gone.
Maybe after many compounding updates, something goes wrong and the webplayer engine stops. In any case its all fine now.
Hope this helps others.
(Just remember if you do this to sync your settings) -

That is why it works for you now because we replaced the binary with a working one. As I started yesterday in the other thread

No, that is not why. It is because you downloaded again.
Also we have now fixed it for everyone by issuing another version with a higher build number and enabling autoupdate.
