Remember position when restoring recently closed tab
-
Thanks for the help! I have "New Tab Position" set to "After Related Tabs" but it only remembers the location if the tab is the only tab in the tab stack for me. It doesn't work if the tab is one of many inside a tab stack.

@GcWan
Ah, no word about tab stacks, I test this with tabs only. -
Can confirm same behavior as OP for MacOS, Windows and Linux. I am nearly sure that in past Vivaldi was restoring tabs to original position as I am annoyed when they get placed to last position and I dont remember being annoyed with tabs restoring
When I close tab from stack and restore it, it gets back to stack (yes!) just stand alone tab to last position.
When I restore whole closed window with tabs, they are in same position.
"After Related Tabs" settings is not ideal as I want new open tab (even from link) to be last (on right).
If my memory is wrong and Vivaldi never restored tabs to original position I vote for this feature.

Yes, it used to work that way. I while ago, the behaviour changed and it seems to restore according to the "New Tab Position" setting.
I reported this back in October 2022:
(VB-92388) Reopen Closed Tab does not reopen tab in location that the tab was closed
-
@ugly
Hi, VB-92388 is closed as "Cant reproduce" and if I follow your instructions I cant too.
If I close the first tab of 5 and hit Ctrl+Z it open as first tab again, a new tab open as last tab.
New Tab Position = After Related Tabs
I cant speak about tab stacks, I donΒ΄t use them.
The setting naming and where it is is totally misleading for me.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin I can confirm @ugly's issue. My new tab position is set as last tab and I open recently closed tabs using the trash icon.
-
@valiowk
Yes, if set as last tab it does not work but if you set Related tab it work and a new tab open as last tab too. -
@mib2berlin But then you have wrong behavior for opening new tabs from links etc. We want those on end not to related tab
This is the core of the issue "the behaviour changed and it seems to restore according to the "New Tab Position" setting" it wasnt like this and some of us would like the old behavior or option for it

@AntraX666
Yes, this feature/setting is broken and/or make no sense.
We need a good bug report or it get closed again.
I can confirm it in the bug tracker but I am not good in writing reports. My englisch is often not good enough.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Resubmitted report as
(VB-97599) Reopen Closed Tab does not reopen tab in position that the tab was closed
. Hope the instructions are sufficiently clear now. -
@valiowk
Confirmed.
I have added a comment about the "New Tab" settings, restore a tab is not a new tab.Cheers, mib
