You'll want to define app passwords for Mail (and Calendar?)
See more details at the help pages: https://help.vivaldi.com/services/account/two-factor-authentication/ -
Thanks! The instructions on the help page sound more complicated than it is. Basically, you just need to replace the vivaldi account password with the new generated app password in the apps that you use. In my case Thunderbird and K-9 Mail. Every app needs its own generated app-password. That's it.
-
I'm unable to activate 2FA. I can log into my account with no problem (as evident by me being able to post this), but when I enter my password to verify my identity after clicking on the button to enable 2FA, I'm told that my password is incorrect.
Have you heard of anyone else having this issue?
-
@eric-chameroy Same for me. I haven't found solution .
-
@pauloaguia I added the key to the list of compatible hardware keys.
-
Vivaldi wasn't even on my radar until a little over a year ago and I have been nothing but impressed ever since. There are still a few things that Firefox does better or I would be a full time user. I genuinely appreciate all the hard work your team puts into your products. Thank you!
-
@tonci-razmilic @eric.chameroy @jan-ripper @Bononi-Gustavo Sorry about that, there was an issue on our end that should now be resolved. Could you please try again?
-
@isak Taanks. It works now.
-
@isak: Thanks, it's working now
-
@Team_Vivaldi After I set up 2FA, I now have an authentication error. I enter my username and password again and I still get the error message.
-
This is great news and I can't wait to have the access to Vivaldi Webmail!
-
Thanks for the webmail reputation system. That is a very clever way to do it. So, does this mean we can now create a second webmail account for business or other needs? It's a very good webmail when you don't need the other things that comes with others (like Fastmail).
-
@fjc1029 If you have separate forum accounts, you can get mail access after a while if reputation is high enough (i guess this reput is increased by upvoted forum posts, use of Vivaldi Sync, Vivaldi Social).
-
@DoctorG thank you for your prompt response. My thinking, and what I meant, was that since before you needed an additional phone number to create a second webmail account, now that is not the case. So I think this leaves open the ability to have an additional mailbox with the same account.

How much of a reputation do we have to have in order to get our account activated ? What are the specifics?
....... Vivaldi Webmail is a service for active Vivaldi Community members using Vivaldi’s services. This means that new users, who registered their account after 4th of May 2023, first need to build up a reputation to be granted access to the Webmail service.

It's stated quite clearly in the blog post that:
To guarantee the efficiency of this new method, we will not share details about which activities help to build reputation and how many points each action will give. How long it will take to get access to Vivaldi Webmail will also vary. So it’s best to just enjoy being a member of the community. Then, one day, with recognition as an active Vivaldi Community member, you’ll get access to Vivaldi Webmail.

not very much) it's a matter of two or three days of active participation in the forum. No one is forcing you to communicate nonstop. at the same time, it is a real measure to discourage spammers from accessing the mail

2FA is great, as is App Passwords. I implemented them and updated my phone apps and Thunderbird on desktop with new app passwords without issue.
But I'm not sure I can get behind the "earn your way to a webmail account" move; it seems very self-serving to force interaction on Vivaldi's various hosted social platforms.
That said, I understand that combating spam accounts is a never-ending battle and you have to try everything at your disposal.
