as a complete and utter noob here, i'm doing my level best to learn and then strictly observe all the rules, regulations, bylaws, protocols and conventions of the place. one such, apparently, is that some people seem to consider it bad form to slightly meander into fascinating slightly divergent pathways within any given "serious" thread. as such,
and in a spirit of trying to emulate the style of some erstwhile active but now unambiguously ex-parrots (whoops, what a giveaway; carry-on, probablyfrom decades of judicious painstaking tedious research i discovered a historical practice of taking such tangential adventures into specially-designated "frivolous" threads, so as to thereby leave the original thread fully unsullied by lowly proletariat distractions.
