Vivaldi doesn't allow authentication in apps on Linux
-
When I try to login to Slack, Github, Drata, something else using browser, to authenticate installed application, Vivaldi 5.7.2921.53 won't do it despite prompting opening app's link. I have to copy and paste those links to Firefox and only then they work, defying having Vivaldi as default browser on linux. It worked only once for me in Slack for non-2fa protected channels, but didn't work for protected channel.
Tried on Ubuntu 22.04 and kubuntu 22.10, which I plan to daily-drive now. Been happening for more than a year now, since I started daily-driving linux. -
@sneaky4oe
This is unusual and should not be.
Have you checked your configuration of Vivaldi?
Do you use many extensions?
Have you tried a guest profile without any extensions?You've been here a long time, but don't know if you realise you can create a signature now, you've had enough
.
This may be helpful questions. -
My configuration is imported from my mac laptop initially. What should I look at? Vivaldi is a default browser.
I'm using 8 extensions: 1password, AutoScroll, checker plus for gmail, zenmate (which is broken, trying to solve in another topic), Google Translate, Grammarly, Plasma Integration, Ublock Origin.
Behavior won't change if I disable them all or try to login in incognito window.Right now had a test with Slack, and it opens login window, then pops up empty slack window and opens login window again until I copy the same link and paste to firefox.

@sneaky4oe
So you're on the road with macOS.
This could be important for help.
That's why it's good to have a signature that answers questions right away. -
@sneaky4oe
After a restart, please try a 'guest profile' in Vivaldi to see if the problems persist.
It could be your extensions that are causing this behaviour.
If you disable extensions, you need to restart.The Vivaldi help pages are always good and helpful.

Disabled all extensions in work profile, stopped vivaldi, started it again in guest mode. Logged in to Slack and tried to open non-protected room. Slack icon appeared next to cursor after Vivaldi asked for permission to open link, Slack for focused on screen, but I wasn't logged in to the community.

@sneaky4oe
Have you downgraded Vivaldi?
This can cause major problems. -
No, I haven't. I tried in the most recent *.deb install, as well as latest vivaldi development snapshot from 6 days ago. Can't authenticate in both versions.
However, I just installed Chrome, and it seems like the issue is also persistant there.How can I debug it, I wonder...
