What can I do about rate limiting?
-
I am frequently running up against Vivaldi Social's "rate limit," and that's really disrupting my experience with the platform. I'm a "normal" user (meaning that I don't use bots, I don't code, etc.) and I have no idea why I'm running into that rate limit problem. I'm logged in on Mastodon for Android on my phone and tablet, plus Vivaldi for Windows and Microsoft Edge for Windows (so 4 logins altogether). Did I do something to make Vivaldi Social think I'm a bot? What can I do here?

@mikolsic Sounds strange, maybe it’s indeed the number of logins. You should be able to post as much as you like, many people do, haven’t heard of any limit yet and checking your mastodon profile it doesn’t appear like you are spamming or something.

@luetage the problem occurs even when I'm trying to do something like add a profile I follow to a list I created, or when I try to star a post. It's not limited to when I try to post something of my own.
Anyway, I'm not sure anyone in this forum can help with this problem—I suppose mostly I wanted to vent.

@mikolsic You will receive help here, but it’s already weekend. You might have to wait for the start of next week for someone from the team to reply. And you could always contact the Vivaldi account on Mastodon of course, who knows, maybe it helps.

Rate limits are documented here:
https://docs.joinmastodon.org/api/rate-limits/Doesn't look like Vivaldi has set any lower than default limits:
$ curl -sI https://social.vivaldi.net/api/v1/instance | grep limit x-ratelimit-limit: 300 x-ratelimit-remaining: 299 x-ratelimit-reset: 2023-02-10T23:15:00.484533Z
So possibly a client issue, and you can check this yourself using the above or using Devtools, looking at API call response headers.

Oddly, and without any changes to my behavior or my logins, this issue is no longer affecting me. I don't really like the mystery, but I'm grateful that it's not a problem anymore.
