Solved Address bar auto-complete has been ruined

I don't have that enabled since I have the "Show Drop-Down when Typing" checkbox disabled. The Address Auto-Complete section does not have any configuration other than bookmarks.
Yeah, that's just bad UI unfortunately. Even when disabled, the selected categories are still taken into account for autocomplete when deciding what to show and what category to prioritise.
-
Wow you're totally right. I disabled "Include Typed History" and now that issue with the "maxc" search result is gone.

Hi,
For those of you that are lucky enough to have the address field drop-down menu actually functioning properly I'm happy for you, currently on the version of vivaldi that I'm currently using ( 5.7.2887.3 (Official Build) (64-bit) ) the address dropdown arrow on the far right hand side of the address bar remains grayed out and isn't active so at least for me serves no purpose at all. Merry Christmas

There is a chance this wil fixed before the end of Windows 7 support ?
-
@Tharon I do not know when a 5.7 Stable with auto-complete fixes will published.

Sorry if i ask, but 5.7 is not supposed to be based on Chromium 1.10 and not working on Winodows 7 ?

5.7 will most likely be based on Chromium 108

@Tharon sorry, but turns out my earlier comment is wrong. 5.7 will definitely be 110+. As for if all the addressbar fixes will make it to an earlier stable version I doubt it, but a dev would need to confirm.

That's a really bad news.
The autocomplete is unusable now, and it was reported multiple times months agoThe 5.6 is cluttered by bugs and crashes and people updated to in good faith, but now are stucked with a version riddled with bugs. The devs should fix what was broken before jumping to a version not compatible.
It's something i didn't expected coming from Vivaldi Team, i'm a bit disappointed.
I'm tempted to go back to an old, more working installation but i've read there are compatibility issues with profiles.
-
5.6.2867.62 hasn't fixed it, although it's mentioned in the changelog. It's still hit and miss.
-
@tjukken Could you provide a specific example please? Including screenshots would be helpful
-
-
@tjukken is the second screenshot from an older version?

I was able to roll back to 5.3.2679.70 with no issues so far. The address bar stupidity is gone, and native toasts work right again.

They are from the same build, 5.6.2867.62.
I should add that when I type 'a' and nothing happens, when I add 'r', so 'ar', then arstechnica is filled out, always.

The original address bar was fine, it annoyed me sometimes but it wasn't any more annoying than other browsers. But now... now it's the worst address bar I have ever used and by a lot. I didn't complain yet thinking that surely they would fix it but maybe this crap is just as designed.
It even auto completes a url when I have already used a space to continue with my search. So I'm now going to a website url with spaces in it. It's embarrassingly bad.
Vivaldi gets features and into states where I recommend it to people and then does dumb stuff so I can't anymore. It's a weird cycle.
-
Cannot agree more. Old bar was not as good as Chrome/Brave but was usable at least.
Please please Vivaldi devs! Make is as Chrome/Brave and Vivaldi become the best browser in universe.
This address bar state sadly made me switch to Brave...

@petrkejval
Hi, do you write about Vivaldi 5.6 or the latest 5.7?
There was 30+ bug fixes and changes since the latest 5.6 build, it cant not be the same ruined address bar, at least.
Maybe it´s time to open a new 5.7 address bar thread.Cheers, mib

I am using 5.7. The address bar has at least annoyed me less... but still replaces shit right before pressing enter on a suggestion going to the wrong place and flat out ignores the text I have there and instead goes to the last suggestion even if the suggestion isn't visible anymore... I used to be able to type, see a suggestion, press space to make it go away because I'm done with what I want to search, then press enter and search that. But since these terrible updates it just goes to the suggestion anyway.

@Robbo try to disable that autocomplete feature. i have no idea why someone thought it would be a good idea for it to be enabled by default, it has succeeded only in pissing me off.
seeing suggestions from bookmarks/history in the dropdown is fine, but autocompleting what i write so that i have to delete the rest of the text or select something else from the dropdown just to do a normal search, is absurd.
