Start up window size

Thanks for this one @pbwoody79, but it didn't do the job because it shows the upper bar which i did hide with a custom css, thanks anyway.
I stay on the older version (the 'latest' one that it works: 5.4.2753.51) and wait till this bug is fixed, which I'm happy to hear about it @henryjames76

@easyj - Hi, could I ask you to do a small experiment if you have the spare time? Could you enable "Use Native Window" in Vivaldi, maximise your Vivaldi Window, and then disable this option in settings (and restart the browser every time you toggle "Use Native Window")?
Does the window keep its maximised dimensions? I'm just trying to narrow down, if it was toggling this option that solved this problem for me, or whether it was the small update to Vivaldi that followed almost immediately afterwards. Thanks!
-
@pbwoody79 i have installed the newest update available and tried what you have just said to no avail. I hope that helps to narrow it down.
Returning to the 5.4.2753.51 update back. -
@easyj - Thanks for doing this for me. Unfortunately, I think it just confirms that my fix probably only works on my system I hope a universal fix, that also solves your issue, will be released soon.
-
@pbwoody79 no problem.

@henryjames76 is there any post that i can track of so i can know that this bug is fixed at some point of time?
I don't want updating and downgrading over and over again my browser. Better to stay on the old update and do the update when this bug is fixed, but i need to know which update includes this fix.
thanks

This was obviously an issue back in 2017 and seems to have been fixed with an update but is occurring for me on macOS 13.1 Ventura.
Since the last time I reduced the Vivaldi window size every time I launch it the size is returns to the reduced size meaning I have to increase it to maximum every time. -
@Annerod replying to my own thread here because no one else has.
I did think this problem would go away but it persists despite restarts and the passing of time.
From what I can find online it has been an intermittent issue and like all intermittent issues often just fixes itself in the next update or patch. So I guess, just like an iOS version I will have to wait. -

@Annerod A fix looks like it is on its way.
-
@Annerod and + button broke the windows. USeless shame, not a browser
-
@Annerod and plus (green with option) button broke the windows.

This is quite annoying. Please do a quick fix. Thanks a lot.

I found a solution. Add --start-maximized at the end of a Vivaldi shortcut, e.g.:
"C:\Program Files\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --start-maximized -
@erwinfink glad that you found a workaround for Windows platform, but we're talking here about macOS.
Do you know any trick that will do the job for macOS?
-
Hi,
The switch should work despite the OS.Just add it in the proper place, either Terminal or Shortcut.

Just came here to report this issue - it's so annoying!
@Zalex I tried the switch from terminal but macOS being macOS it didn't work well
$ open /Applications/Vivaldi.app --start-maximized open: unrecognized option `--start-maximized'
probably doing something weird here but TBH I almost never run GUI apps from terminal (and above works fine for CLI apps) so not sure about passing parameters here. Besides, it's only a half-baked workaround -- Vivaldi should remember it's window size and "maximize" state! (though, such state doesn't exists in macOS AFAIR…)
-
Yes,
But as a workaround (if works).--
There's a setting in a file called Preferences.
Saw about that days ago but didn't tested, if you or someone else want to try:- Download some JSONEditor
- Create a New Vivaldi Profile "User Profiles" |
- Vivaldi may start in FullScreen
- Locate its Profile Path |
vivaldi://about
- Finder to there
- Find the Preferences File
- Make a copy
- Open the original with the choosen JSONEditor
- Lines to check & copy to a NotePad | Title it as MxM Org
Root | Browser | Window_Placement
- Lines to check & copy to a NotePad | Title it as MxM Org
{ "window_placement" : { "bottom" : 708, "left" : 10, "maximized" : true, "right" : 1270, "top" : 10, "work_area_bottom" : 728, "work_area_left" : 0, "work_area_right" : 1280, "work_area_top" : 0 } }
- Close that New Profile
Accept to Refresh the JSON Preferences since some changes are done on VClose - Change some of this values
{ "window_placement" : { "bottom" : XXX, "left" : XX, "maximized" : true, "right" : XXXX, "top" : XX, } }
Maybe more as for
Work_Area
Here the Windows ToolBar is fixed.{ "window_placement" : { "work_area_bottom" : 728, "work_area_left" : 0, "work_area_right" : 1280, "work_area_top" : 0 } }
- Open the Profile again
If that change has made some Window resize close it down - Restore previous values
Open again and check
If that change has made and kept some Window resizes apply the MxM Org to your current profile.
- Back up your Profile
- Locate Preferences file
- Make a copy
- Edit original with the choosen JSONEditor
- Apply the tested and working changes
- Check
As you can see there's a
Maximized:True
entry.
In case your Profile has set to False, try changing it or add it when apply the coordinates changes as well.
Test which works faster and easier.
Not tested myself
Even if did it, may not work for macOS.--
