What is a Common Folder?
-
In email, I created a thread "T". After selecting all <CTRL>+A I tried the "Move" option but Vivaldi displayed "No common folder. Cannot move item". However, if I selected items individually, the "Move" action provided many options.
So what is a common folder? Is that something I can create if I wanted? TIA

@janrif I assume those mails come from different mail accounts. Moving an email means that they are put in a different folder in some IMAP account. If they are spread out over several accounts, then by definition the same folder (even if you have two different folders with the same name in to different accounts)

@WildEnte Thanks for responding but I don't understand your third sentence.

@janrif I assume that your email thread contains emails that are spread out in different accounts. Say you have 5 emails in your thread, which started off by someone sending you the first email to your private address but since it was work related, you replied from your work address. Now you have a thread where 4 out of the 5 emails are in your work account, but the very first one is in your private account.
If you now want to move the 5 mails to one single IMAP folder in your work account, this won't work, because the first email is on a completely different server.
Note that Vivaldi Mail doesn't move your emails around locally, it doesn't have folders on your PC. All email folders are on some remote IMAP server.

AFAICS No common folder. Cannot move this selection is an unfortunately choice of phrase to state the functionality to move messages from multiple IMAP accounts to another is yet to be implemented ― may have been better to disable (gray out) the Move option to convey this state.

@yojimbo274064400 you can move messages between accounts already. But you can't select two messages from two different accounts and do the move action in one go. You have to do this individually.
Works when selecting a single message:

Hi, I test this with moving a mail from an IMAP folder of my freenet.de account to the Inbox of my yahoo.com account.
I don´t have custom IMAP folders on my yahoo account.
I guess what @WildEnte mentioned is you cant move several mails in Received from different accounts, only from one account to another.
The text of the context menu is a bit hard to understand but correct.Cheers, mib
