Crash on Google Translate
-
Hi, this is a different issue with an extension, many extensions are not working or cause issues in Vivaldi, they are developed for Chrome.
Please check Google translate in a web panel, this is maybe a workaround.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Yes; accessing Google Translate by webpanel, or by directly opening the website by typing on address bar, or by bookmark all work fine... Vivaldi crashes only if Google Translate is accessed through the extension, so perhaps it's a problem with extension itself...
-
@krilok
Ah, and I guess they don´t repair it.
Vivaldi should not crash from an extension, you can report a bug with a crash log if you like. Vivaldi create it if it crash.Cheers, mib

same for me, it may crash on other sites too but on google translate more often or i using it too often

You mean through this? Because a lot of G-Extension doesn't work with Vivaldi.
-
@Hadden89 Yes, that's exactly the extension...
-
@krilok Sadly not much we can do. Google extensions heavily relies on chrome APIs which can't be used (without paying google) from other chromium browsers like vivaldi and this can easily cause this kind of issues.

I have the same issue. This used to work fine, but started breaking a couple of updates ago. I am a U.S. expat so I use translate often and the built in translate does not do a good job for the language I need. If you go to the Translate website from the extension, anything you type in or paste to translate is going to crash Vivaldi, though the translation for selected text without leaving the page still works (not sure how). I tried uninstalling the extension and reinstalling it, and that actually appeared to work for a day, then the problem returned. Love Vivaldi, but need a decent translator. Interestingly, the Translate this page still works.
-
@KBThailand Use IM if you need an extension. Works very well. DeepL or G-translate as web service (not extensions) are a fine choice too.
-
@Hadden89 Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately Thai to English and the reverse is more difficult than many translators seem to be able to handle. G-Translate does a decent job, usually, or at least gets close enough to figure out what is meant, so I've gotten used to using it. I added the website as a speed-dial on the home page, and that seems to fix the problem for ad hoc conversational translations. Still need the extension for the Translate This Page and highlighted text translation, which still work.
-
@KBThailand Yeah, for such languages there are not too much choices other than g-translate as provider. Btw, IM extension also uses g-translate so thai/english should be supported as well and has a function to translate the page and translate a text selection.
-
@Hadden89 Again, I appreciate the suggestion and I did go and look at IM. Unfortunately, they lost me when I went to try the online translation of a Thai phrase that might give trouble to see what they translated to, and they would not do the example without WHITELISTING the site to serve ads. Nope, lost me right there. Might work fine, but if I have to allow ads just to see what it will do, it is not worth it to me. The solution I came up with (speed dial) is certainly not elegant, but it works well enough for my needs until Vivaldi gets a chance to look at the issue and hopefully fix it. Thanks again for your suggestion.

The problem not only in translate site, for me it crashing even on search from quick search panel. And vivaldi crahing not only on google, it just more ofent on google because we using it more often. Last few updates somthing broke in vivaldi.
Hard to use it with crashing every day.

You will not receive any more than an automated response to bug reports, unless a developer needs some information from you. From the bug number, you can see that they received over 90K bug reports; so could not possibly respond to each one.
Bugs are worked on whenever a developer is free - crashes have a high priority. However, no estimate of when it will be fixed is ever given. Your bug report number may appear in changelogs, or a duplicate bug may be listed.
Two weeks is not long. Stable versions are released about every two months. Snapshots are released much more frequently.
Install the Snapshot as a Standalone Version so that it does not interfere with your settings for the Stable release.

@sprayer
Hi, can you post the bug number of your report, please?

Native vivaldi translation tool just bad, it's not always work. I know what definlty will help is full unistall of vivaldi but i don't want to do it often. -
