5.6 | Dark Background loss
-
@LandisTwo If the issue is the same on Chrome/Chromium 108 then the plex server web interface has broken stylesheets.
And for a test only, can you start Vivaldi from shell to test without hardware acceleration and check what happens:
vivaldi --disable-gpu
-
@DoctorG Thank You.
I will try starting vivaldi from command line as soon as I have 5 min.
QUESTION:
was this a known bug that I can find and 'fix' (re-write) the Plex css?
I posted this on Plex forum back when it first happened. No Reply there : ( -

As you said, the issue is with Chromiums and Vivaldi. The it is not a browser bug but a broken UI in Plex, could be fixable with CSS and JavaScript, but that is a question only Plex devs can tell you.

vivaldi --disable-gpu
This is either Chrome or Vivaldi cause right click menus are no longer themed either.
-
@LocutusOfBorg I never said, the parameter is a fix. I wanted a test what happens if no hardware acclleration is used.
-
Missing dark background of context menus can be fixed with chrome://settings/appearance , switch to GTK and restart.
-
@DoctorG , thanks, but...
This issue WAS in Chrome, but is now 'fixed' as of yesterday.
Now, as of yesterday is in Vivaldi.
Seems Vivaldi is then using 2 month old Chromium code, which was then passed to Chrome, but again, is now 'fixed'.
I don't see this being a 'broken' Plex issue.
I will check Chromium/Chrome bug reports for mention.
I'm not finding anything at bugs.chromium.org...
do you have a bug number? -
@LandisTwo said in 5.6 update loses dark backgrounds as did chrome 1 month ago:

No. Vivaldi uses Chromium 108.0.5359.105 which is not old.
-
@DoctorG,
thank you, but I am using gtk 'theme' (not classic).
I don't remember what that fix, but it did... : ) -
@DoctorG @LocutusOfBorg,
ok, my server download finished and i restarted vivaldi using:vivaldi --disable-gpu
non-stop errors like this:
(vivaldi:32134): Gtk-WARNING **: 08:06:48.452: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:3991:12: .......
Starting Plex web client...
works (keeps dark background when i stop media and return to 'home'), in both normal Vivaldi window and when launched as 'App' (single window, no toolbars).
Hmmm. Now what?
so i get either Plex background or google maps 3d, but not both, eh.- short term, I will add --disable-gpu to the command of Plex [Vivaldi] 'App' for now.
PS:
launching Plex 'App' normally, while Vivaldi browser window is running with switch --disable-gpu keeps background. Guess it's not really launched as seperate process even though it wants it's own access to kwallet.
ps, LocutusOfBorg, the chrome:// theme = gtk should fix your menus.
Definitely --disable-gpu works. started Vivaldi browser 'normal' then launch Plex 'App' and got same white background after stopping media. - So, will add --disable-gpu to launcher command of 'App'.
Nope. That does Not work if vivaldi browser is already running 'normal'.
need command line to launch 'App' as seperate process - short term, I will add --disable-gpu to the command of Plex [Vivaldi] 'App' for now.

sorry, but this seems to me, to be a Vivaldi issue.
Again, Chrome did it for a month starting on or about 2022-11-05.
Yesterday I patched and updated openSuSE and KDE (like I do every couple of days).
Both Chrome-stable and Vivaldi-stable where updated.
Chrome No longer has the issue, but.... On the same day Vivaldi inherits the issue... Too strange to be coincidence. And, being that Plex Media Server has not changed in a couple of weeks, I can't see it being Plex css issue.
Just say'n.
Have a good day everyone.
(this is me giving up for now, and using chrome for Plex 'App')

This is a really nice forum package.
anyone know what it's base on ? -
@LandisTwo I would like to help but i do not run SuSE, only Ubuntu GNOME, Mint XFCE and Debian KDE, and i do not have Plex media server installed.
Which Plex do you use?
I will try 1.29.2.6364.//EDIT: local server tracks and sends data to plex website. No thanks, I am not willing to test a media server which needs connections to outside to work! -
@DoctorG,
I'm running PMS Version 1.29.2.6364 as of 2022-12-12
DoctorG, KDE should be KDE. openSuSE is 'just an OS'.if not willing to try Plex, what would you recommend.
I am willing to try another, even though I've invested 6 years into PMSthere is way to use local IP://web/.
I agree about the 'needing connection to outside'.
It's useless if your internet is down... all those movies sitting there that can't easily be watched. (pain in the ass granting 'unsecured' access).Landis.

Thanks worked like a charm.

I run Kodi on my NAS.

OK looks like there is another issue with theming and file dialog. I installed a new Arch based distro named CachyOS, updated it once on the desktop, tweaked it, and installed all my apps. Yesterday when I went to download a item I notice the dialog box for saving was white not laid out different than it should be. I thought maybe use GTK got switch to Use Classic but that is still set to use GTK. On top of that the rightclick menus are themed correctly where they weren't before. Please see the below screenshots. Top one is CacyOS and the bottom one was taken in Manjaro. The dialog boxes in each image should be identical even though they are on different OS's, OS's based on Arch with the Plasma desktop. Thanks

@LocutusOfBorg Really no one on this?
-
@LocutusOfBorg The Linux world has always had amateurish 1-2 man distros amongst the good and established ones, in this case it seems he/they have forgotten to include or are not aware of the
kdialog
package, so either install it or remove that OS junk from your PC... -
