Introducing Vivaldi Social, your new federated social-networking home
-
For those that do not like watching videos or just hate my voice (like me). Here is a transcript
[Ruarí Mumbles] "…would be hilarious" (someone in the background laughs)
[Ruarí sits at a desk with a blue background and a macOS computer beside him]
"Shall I just talk?"
[Vivaldi Social intro screen, featuring a blue version of the Vivaldi logo. Below it states "Powered by Mastodon" with their logo]
[Back to Ruarí sitting at the desk]
"Hi everyone, my name is Ruarí and I am from Vivaldi. And today, I just wanted to get together to give you a really exciting announcement. I am sure a few of you are on Twitter, and you have heard some news and some issues. And people may have talked about the word Mastodon."
[Blue screen showing the Mastodon logo]
"So Mastodon is an open social network."
[Back to Ruarí]
"Where everyone can kind of contribute. And we decided to start an 'Instance'."
[Vivaldi Browser displaying content from social.vivaldi.net]
And what that means for our Vivaldi users is, they can just go ahead, log in right away—use the login they already have—and be part of this wider community. And if you are not with us that's fine, you can sign up as well. It's open to everyone!
[Back to Ruarí]
And we really love this idea because it brings us back to the roots of the web, where everyone is an equal and people are not "monitored and checked and so on" [a clarification appears on screen the means monitoring in the "profiling" sense as done by "Big tech" where you data is used and sold—the instance will be moderated]. So come and check us out at vivaldi.social.
[End Screen featuring a blue version of the Vivaldi logo and the word "Vivaldi" in caps]

You should not copy data from you forum. Mastodon and Vivaldi's forum are the different things, and they should works with different nicknames and different avatars.
-
@doctorg: , I think our focus at this time is on the launch of Vivaldi Social. Whether to do more on chat in the future, we will leave that decision for later.
-
This is very cool! It did confuse me at first because I tried to create a new account for it, until I realized all I had to do was login using my existing Vivaldi account!
-
thanks for joining the fediverse!
-
Hmmm ... I like a different social network.
-
@jon: I love this progress! Breaking from big tech, creating our tiny Hobbit house. Now what will it be next? Our own productive suit (aka a Vivaldi version of word, excel etc... Maybe Libreoffice can jump in)
-
looks good!
-
Where can I see which mastodon servers yours is federated with?

No Fake News? Good choice vivaldi.

LOL

@treego Your posts containing and linking to false and inflammatory information have been deleted. It is a violation of Vivaldi community Code of conduct to post content likely to offend people based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or political views.
Continued violation of the Code of conduct can result in a temporary or permanent ban.
There are hundreds of places where one can peddle conspiracy claptrap, but the Vivaldi community is not one of them nor, it would seem, are most Mastodon servers (there are some Mastodon servers that welcome such content, but most of the Mastodon fediverse has walled them off.)
-
@Ayespy What was false or inflammatory? I find the banning of free speech to be inflammatory, honestly. Too bad that Vivaldi has aligned itself with this company.
Don't you find it ironic that Big Tech companies like Facebook and Twitter accept that link with no issues? Gab accepts the link, but they accept anything short of porn or threats of violence/murder.
I thought Mastodon was supposed to be a way of escaping Big Tech control.
-
I'm already a part of Mastodon (like you, I had been curious about it for a while, but only recently made the plunge), so unfortunately this comes a little late for me. But I applaud Vivaldi for taking this step
-
Since I already have a Mastodon account I assume there's no sense in creating another one on vivaldi.social. Correct?
-
@treego It is a violation of Vivaldi community Code of conduct to post content likely to offend people based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or political views.
You posted content calculated to offend, and which other users did, in fact, find offensive.
I don't find it ironic in the least that a small tech community focused on courtesy and good will has rules against content that "Big Tech" permits.
By joining and posting here, you consent to our terms of use and code of conduct.
-
@crimsonshade: you can migrate your account from one server to another. It'll move your followers, etc. but not your posts.
-
@Ayespy I am talking about Mastodon. I wasn't calculating anything by the way ... good grief! \
I find your tone less than courteous or of good will, also.
