Crashpad Handler Using 21% CPU
-
Linux Mint, Ryzen 5, Radeon graphics.
After Vivaldi is open for a certain period of time, the handler pegs the CPU at over 20% and stays there, even with only three open tabs. The CPU usage stays above 20%, with the fan running at its highest speed until shutting down the browser. Any suggestions on preventing this?

@Boomer1
Hi, I cant reproduce it on several installs even after hours of running Vivaldi. System specs in my signature.
Please add your OS and Vivaldi version.
You can only test this with a second profile. No settings changed, no extensions.https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/

@mib2berlin Does the attached imagine help? This was taken about 1 hour ago.
Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon
Vivaldi 5.5.2805.42 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) -
@Boomer1 That looks like a renderer process type. If you look at the full process arguments you will find the PID of the actual crashpad handler.
So it's a renderer process and is probably having a tab open. You will need to examine the Vivaldi task manager (Tools > Task Manager) to match the PID of 13309 and what it's doing.

The Gmail pinned tab is the problem. Does this problem have a fix, other than shutting down the tab?

@Boomer1 Gmail is a heavy web site. It definitely uses some CPU here on my slightly old i7-4790K but not massively so. There's not really any fix for this, some sites are just heavy on the CPU.
Does it use the same CPU when unpinned? Just a thing to check.
Note also that the Vivaldi task manager shows CPU use over cores so if you have an 8-core processor, 800% is the max. While in Windows Task manager 100% is the accumulated max. I don't know how your system's monitor shows CPU%.

@Boomer1 @Pathduck
Hi, on Linux quad core CPU show 400%, 24% is not much, but ...
Check the image for CPU usage with open Gmail page pinned and a web panel, I have a 4 core 8 thread CPU.@Boomer1
You have other options:- Use Gmail in a web panel annd enable Lazy Loading for panels
- Use Vivaldi mail client, no need to bother with crappy web clients anymore.
Try in a new profile, you cant be sure other things in your profile cause this.
All other is just guesswork.
