Cannot copy paste in dev tools

On Mac I have a similar issue. I can't use
Cmd + C
but I can copy usingEdit > Copy
in the menu bar. -
@leo32345 Yes that's the same exact issue that has so far only been fixed in the snapshot.
Meanwhile we patiently await the fix making it into the next release.
-
What's happening to this great browser?
I'm no longer able to copy paste from macOS in the dev cons? -
I have the same problem too.

Chrome/Chromium 104 is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2022. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before Vivaldi 5.4 (Stable) gets released, which will include a fix for this issue.
-
@grebonato Yeah or like someone above suggested, I've been working on Brave Browser at production for a while, actually not bad.
-
Still, no one (maybe I missed it) official explained whether it's a mistake or negligence on coding, or, a new feature with special intention...
-
@dachy There's not really anything to explain. The issue got fixed in a 5.4 Snapshot but the fix involved a significant code change to how keyboard shortcuts get handled internally. They considered backporting the fix but it was ultimately deemed too risky to incorporate into a 5.3 update.
-
@dachy Brave offers a lot of things... but for me the deal breaker in Vivalid is the full customisation of keyboard shortcuts
-
This is a temporary workaround.
I used the Better touch tool to assign keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste in the Vivaldi app menu and it seems to be working fine so far.
-
@cktorii Ahhh good thinking!

FYI, Vivaldi 5.4 RC builds are now out. If all goes well, we should see the official release of Vivaldi 5.4 in just a few days.
If you are feeling brave and want to install a pre-release version of Vivaldi 5.4 to get this fix immediately, go to https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/5-4-rc-1/ and download "Stable stream (2753.23)" for macOS. You will need to remove
/Applications/Vivaldi.app
manually and then reinstall the RC. I am not aware of any serious bugs in this build but I would still advise backing up your profile before upgrading. -
5.4 stable is out https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-5-4-on-desktop/

Finally! It works, guys!

Hi.
For those who use a version where the issue still appears, you can try using this online tool: https://console.re/try
It helped me out. See an usage example in the screenshot below.
Note that the resulting JSON will appear only after expanding the Array row.
While searching for a solution to this issue, I learned about Vivaldi and its blog.
Cheers!

@dachy The issue got fixed in a 5.4 Snapshot
What's the latest on this? I'm still having this issue. Keyboard shortcuts don't work in dev tools. Using Vivaldi 6.1.3035.302 (Stable channel) (x86_64) on mac os.
Also where can I find submitted bug reports? I want to see the latest on VB-89842 covering this issue. I found the bug reporting page but can't find a way to lookup, browse or search existing bugs. Surely the bug report is not just a black hole...
-
@easyme Vivaldi's bug tracker is not open to the public, so you cannot view the bug, but VB-89842 got fixed more than a year ago. I retested basic shortcuts in dev tools (as described in the original post here) on both the latest Stable release and Snapshot build and they work fine for me.
What specific thing does not work for you?
-
CMD+a, CMD+z, CMD+Shift+Z (for selecting all, undoing or redoing) don't seem to work in inputs or other elements present in DevTools. Here I demonstrate how you can select all text in some "textarea" fields but you can't in the filter "input" fields or other areas of DevTools.
CMD+x, CMD+c and CMD+v for cutting, copying and pasting seem to work for me.

Hi @xyzzy, thanks. Keyboard shortcuts don't work for me when dev tools panel is open. In particular:
- ctrl-page up / ctrl-page down do not switch tabs
- cmd-alt-i does not close panel (see Toggle Dev Tools shortcut)
- cmd-1 to cmd-9 (jump to tab) don't work
I'm sure I could find others. Text editing shortcuts like copy and paste work, but not others.
These shortcuts work fine when dev tools is closed.
They work fine when dev tools is open but doesn't have focus. Did you focus dev tools? Put the cursor in dev tools somewhere (Styles filter box, console, etc) and see if that makes a difference. It could also be a bug that only happens on certain platforms. Here's my build strings:
Vivaldi 6.1.3035.302 (Stable channel) (x86_64) Revision 773772e7e92bf14ad0c8f85f41e3d133d0a2b876 OS macOS Version 10.15.7 (Build 19H2026)
Very sad that bug submission is a black hole. No visibility into whether they even looked at the right thing, possible causes / workarounds, if it's waiting on another issue, etc. I thought every modern project had a public bug tracker.
