Sync settings and bookmarks?

Hi. Does Vivaldi yet have a way to sync bookmarks and settings, like Firefox and Chrome have? This would be a great feature. Thanks.

Not yet, but it's high on the development priority list.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing it appear at some point.

I have two reasons that will not allow me to switch to this browser:
[ol]- Does not support Syng setting and bookmarks (It's important)
- Does not support Android. This is not so important.
[/ol]
Until these two features does not support, i can't use this browser.

Hi
Instead of using a custom made server by vivaldi team why not let users chose where they want to save their settings in the cloud ?
I have accounts on google drive, drop box and onecloud with panty of unused space.
Or at least make this an option.Thank you
-
I support the idea of independent custom sync (GDrive, Dropbox, etc.) and I also use Android and I need to I get at least the tabs and bookmarks from my desktop browser when I use smartphone.
-
Yup, dropbox syncing sounds like a fantastic idea. I really hope it kicks off. I like to know and possibly control WHERE my data sits.
-
Hi, I like the idea of syncing on own server but I think it is not possible.
How should a small team manage all the cloud systems out there?
How do you manage bugs when you not have access to the server?
Who do you ask for support if you have problems, Dropbox?Cheers, mib

I think dropbox (and most cloud based systems) have an API that allows access to specific data. But I agree, it's not a straightforward problem. In the first instance I suppose I'd be quite happy with a central server. But perhaps in the long run they could give the user some options like:
1. Sync your data with a central server hosted by Vivaldi
2. Sync your data with your own private server or cloud service. In any case, I'm happy the community here is alive and thriving. Reminds me of Opera in its initial stages
Cheerio now

Hi, I like the idea of syncing on own server but I think it is not possible.
Instead is very possible even right now.
Just use something like clouddrive to mount a remote virtual disk as a real one, then place your user profile there (or rsync the default folder with the a folder laced on the cloud disk).
Do the same on a different machine and your "ghetto" sync is done.
Clouddrive is a windows sw, but possibly on linux is even simpler given its countless number of fuse based filesystems.

Hi The_Solutor, I already tried this with my dropbox drive but got double database files and messed up my profile.
It is not so important for me but thanks for the tip.Cheers, mib
-
It will work, especially for linux where vivaldi isn't ties with the UUID like on windows.
You did something wrong I presume
-
Hi The_Solutor, check again to set my profile folder to the Dropbox directory but doesn´t work.
If I run Vivaldi on two systems at the same time I get several conflicted file, for example:Current Tabs (linux-twjz's conflicted copy 2016-04-29)
May it is not so simple.
Can we open a new thread with kind of HowTo?
Will may help some user with Dropbox or other Cloud systems.Cheers, mib
EDIT: Kind of work but have several History files now.
Have problems with different settings for Laptop and workstation, page size for example -
Let me ask,
since Vivaldi is based upon Chromium, which is open source, is there a specific way not to use the original Sync mechanism?
-
Chrome and Chromium sync via Google servers. Vivaldi wants its own sync, not dependent on Google.
And that's to say nothing of the fact that sync is in the browser, not in the engine. Vivaldi only uses the same engine as Chrome. It is not the same browser - so it does not have the same traits and features that Chrome and Chromium have.

EDIT: Kind of work but have several History files now.
Have problems with different settings for Laptop and workstation, page size for exampleI'm not sure how the dropbox folder is mounted under linux and how close to a real disk it is.
I'm not a dropbox user at all.
Cloud drive under windows was what I did test for various reasons
#1 It's visible by the OS as a real drive, unlike the native apps.
#2 It's cached locally
#3 It's agnostic about the cloud service used
#4 can be encrypted as any other local disk
So looked like a pretty good solution to place there the whole profile.
But in linux case maybe will be better to keep the profile local, and sync just some relevant files using rsync (say bookmarks, login data).
Whatever, I my suggestions were, just as suggestions, given the argument is anything but concluded by my experiments, and also given it includes three OSes, and a zillion of cloud drives flavors.
So no, I don't wan't to open a "tutorial" about something I don't know "like my pockets", like in the current case.
But feel free to use this thread about that argument, the more users will try to figure it out, the more experiments/success/failures, the more knowledge we will get.
Then we can think to a proper how to (unless that will be obsoleted by the official sync)
-
You can mount cloud spaces (WebDAV and whatnot) as directories in Linux, so letting people choose where to store their settings might suffice.
But yeah, sync would be good, if just to keep my dual-boot in sync with Windows (I can let it go just yet).
-
HI,
when I see many people talking about storing settings and bookmarks on the cloud or on private server I hear that could be great to first offering to store this kind of data on OwnCloud. I talk about OwnCloud due to the fact it could be installed on host offer or on private server.
And API is also public :
Or on a private cloud named Cozy : http://cozy.io/fr/apps/ (where quickmarks, files (settings)) could be used.Have a nice day.

The one and only reason why I haven't switch to Vivaldi!
What good does it make to be able to tweak Vivaldi if any time I switch to another PC, change OS or simply want to start clean on another device, I'll have to start all over again my Vivaldi setup, to use it, the way I wanted it?
I love what you've done with Vivaldi so far and will continue to support the project, but please keep us updated on this topic as much as you can since it's the one and only feature that will really make most of the people finally switch to it, as their daily browser!

+1 for being able to sync settings via personal cloud accounts like GDrive or OwnCloud.
+1000000 for being able to sync custom search engines too! Chrome doesn't let us do that and I have a lot of these that I always have to recreate!!!!
