(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

It would nice to see the developer tool be dock in the main browser window in both vertically and horizontally orientation.
-
One of the things I'd really love to see in Vivaldi is a key-bindable function to turn javascript on and off, or switch the current tab between "Web 1.0" and "Web 2.0" client modes. In case anyone else is interested in this or would like to discuss it, I made a thread for the idea, and it has more detail about what this would be used for:

Hi there,
Awesome Browser, but a little request to cookie management. Like in chrome if you are blocking third party cookies, you get a little googling blocking logo in the right side of the search field, where you can manually allow particulate third party cookies. I wish for that to be added
Also another thing, I would like to manage my saved passwords in settings. All I can do is see my username and email, but I can not edit old passwords.
Other then that, awesome browser and keep up the awesome work!

In the settings, please make search engines added sorted alphabetically by default, or provide an option to do so.
-
When i type an url i would like vivaldi to ask if it should switch to an already opened tab with the same url/hostname.
-
Currently you can only enable or disable gestures. It would be great if you could customize gestures. In my current work flow in other browsers, I only use the following gestures and it would be great if I could set up Vivaldi to do the same.
[ul]- Hold Right Mouse Button + Click Left => Close Tab
- Hold Right Mouse Button + Wheel Scroll Up => Left Tab
- Hold Right Mouse Button + Wheel Scroll Down => Right Tab
[/ul]
-
"Open link in new tab" should default to a background tab and the "Open link in background tab" should be changed to "Open link in foreground tab"
-
In the speed dial window, please make the speed dial folders (at the top folder bar and also in the window) sorted alphabetically by default, or provide an option to do so.

@partounian:
I'm surprised I haven't seen this yet, but switching to tabs by doing command+[tab-number] or control+[tab-number].
I can heartily second this request - this will make the browser much more usable to me!

Love what you're doing with Vivaldi. I haven't been this excited about a new browser since Flock was making the rounds. There's a lot of fine tuning to do, but Vivaldi has great stuff doing for it.
My feature request is to expand on the Quick Commands feature, particularly the tab cycling.
My proposal is for it to work like this:
1. All tabs in the quick command box should have a close and new tab button. The New Tab will create a new tab immediately below (or to the right in the tab bar) ready to receive input for the new url box.
2. All tabs in the Quick Command should have a close button so tabs can be managed efficiently from the tab bar.
3. Whenever a tab is selected, you should be able to start typing in it to replace the current url.
4. Have an option to have quick command entries behave identically to typing in the url bar. I frequently type something in just to do a search as I would in the url bar, but nothing happens unless I start with "g" for google or something comparable.
I'd also propose some keyboard actions for each command. By default, perhaps Tab to create a new tab below the selected one, and cntrl+backspace to close a tab in this manner? I'm not sure if There would be issues with using the usual cntrl+T and cntrl+W to create and close tabs in this manner. In any case, my main reason for this feature request is that I run Vivaldi in full screen mode and generally have the url and tab bar hidden as they are unescessary for my browsing experience aside from closing tabs and changing a web page to a new url. The Quick Command feature can become a full replacement for these longstanding web browser staples for those that choose to use it as such.
This may seem kind of elaborate, but I think they're natural expansions of a fantastic feature you guys have implemented. I know while Command Tabbing on MacOS to switch applications, you can quit any open application by pressing Q, which is super useful and a similar concept.

It would be nice to be able to set default behaviour to open external links in new tabs.
-
"Rename tab" feature.
Thanks! -
Bookmark icon in toolbar

Please make it possible to add create an cover for the speed dial folders. The simple folder icon gets really boring.

I got a really smooth transition from Opera 12.17 to Vivaldi the last months but there is one (maybe silly) thing, I miss in comparison to Opera:
I always try to add a webpage to my bookmark bar by dragging the tab into the bar and then remember that I have to drag the address field.
Could you maybe include this feature into a future build?Thank you

Hi,
That's a great feature in Firefox, and I'm not ready to give it up: the ability to add a parameter in bookmark keywords (~ nicknames).e.g.
if I want to be able to call a dictionary within the URL bar, let's say an English/Spanish dictionary:- create a bookmark
- the bookmarked URL will be http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-spanish/%s
where %s is a parameter - the nickname is, let's say, 'es'
- then I just have to call 'es building' to get the translation of 'building' in Spanish.
Time saving and (I guess) easy to code!
Thanks!

Hello, I noticed I can disable the Download Panel from opening automatically upon download. Unfortunately, if I do that, I don't get any significant indication that a download has started, except for the progress bar filling up on side. I think the option of having downloads popping up for a few seconds when a download starts would be nice.

When clicked on a link to download something, if the option to download always to the same location is not selected, please open the save as dialog directly and not the browser download dialogue where you can select save/save as/…
-
It would be fine to add saving pages as .mht

Now that we have editable mouse gestures, I'd like to see one of the most useful gesture options that Opera had.
A mouse gesture for going to the top of a page. Basically having a mouse gesture assigned to a keystroke (in this case, the 'Home' keyboard key).
