Vivaldi browser don't load new mails with GMail

Hey @Fonzy44!
We have a help page for troubleshooting Mail issues here: https://help.vivaldi.com/mail/mail-advanced/troubleshooting-and-debugging-vivaldi-mail/.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
This is a non sense, as the only error I see is the following:2background-bundle.js:1 Error: MISCONFIGURED_ACCOUNT at et (background-bundle.js:1:95509) at Object.getFirstBatch (background-bundle.js:1:99284) at t (background-bundle.js:1:100148) at it (background-bundle.js:1:100546) at Object.ot [as checkForMail] (background-bundle.js:1:100873) at async background-bundle.js:1:101336 'Attributs manquants pour le serveur POP ##########@gmail.com' (anonymous) @ background-bundle.js:1
Rem: I removed my email to avoid to be spammed.
I've checked many times and my password is set. But strangely, Gmail don't accept the connection. See screenshot:
To make Gmail accept the connection, I should check the checkbox "Use OAuth" and when I do that, the password field dissappear and when I test connection, I get the following error :
So, how to set the password if the field disappear ?
Regards,
Fonzy -
When you set the account up, did you select OAuth or App-Specific Password?
Logging in with OAuth opens Google's own login window, so there's no password field to fill in in Vivaldi's UI.
The latter requires 2-step verification to be enabled for your Google account and a generated app password. More info here.
Did you select app-specific password and use your normal login password perhaps? That at least would explain, why Google refuses to connect.

No, no, Google ask me to authorize Vivaldi to use pop3, and I clicked to accept.
Vivaldi appear now in Google as authorized application for pop3 access.
As it doesn't work for Vivaldi mail, I've tried Thunderbird.
I've authorized Thunderbird also in Google to use pop3. Vivaldi and Thuderbirds are present in the list of google authorized applications.
I have configured Thunderbird exactly like Vivaldi Mail. With Thunderbird it worked directly and all my emails where loaded ...
With Vivaldi mail, nothing to do, it doesn't work.
About me there is a bug with Vivaldi Mail.
What is strange is that before re-installation of Vivaldi and cleaning cache, it worked (just it doesn't get new mails at all but it connected to GMail serveur.
Is there another way to debug it more deeply than just the last error ?
By example, is it possible to see the conversation between Vivaldi Mail and GMail ?
I'm pretty sure that anything is wrong, but what ?
It worked before, why not now ?By the way, I have just tested to send emails today and unexpectedly, it work !!!
So I can use SMTP but not POP3 -
I have exactly the same problem.
I've been using Vivaldi email client for several months without any issue, but last week it stopped receiving emails from both of my gmail accounts. Both of which are configured to use POP with an App password.
I've tried changing to Outh2 but that did not help.
I tried re-enabling POP3 on the gmail account, that caused it to re-download all of the emails which I have previously deleted from Vivaldi, but it did not download any new emails.I've installed and configured Thunderbird which successfully downloads the emails via POP3.
However, sending emails via Vivaldi does works.

Have you added the same Gmail accounts in Vivaldi as you have in Thunderbird?

Absolutely: YES
As explained, it is exactly the same configuration in Vivaldi mail and in Thunderbird.
I can show you a screenshot if you need it but about me, it's the same fields in each application. -
Do you have "Leave messages on server" enabled in Thunderbird?
-
Yes, my objective is to have a usable copy of my emails offline with my computer in case of loss of network and an online version with my smartphone.
So, it is important to let my emails on the server. -
I have the same error for accounts using pop3. Gmail accounts that are setup with IMAP are working fine.
-
I have the same problems with Gmail and POP3 /Vivaldi
I came from Opera, went to Thunderbird and up to Vivaldi.
Tried alot to get POP3 working with Vivaldi, NO RESULTS.. grrrr
Started Thunderbird POP3 and Whoopsy, worked as a charm, NO problems at all.
If Vivaldi is:
NOT going to admit they have a problem here,
NOT going to tell when to be fixed/expected to be fixed,i will stay with Thunderbird and not coming back because i need to trust a program to address a problem in reasonable time.
SHOW us you can be a trusted Vivaldi....
-
So I'm not alone having problems with POP3 on Vivaldi.
Please, can you look at this problem ?
I would like to give a chance to Vivaldi but it become difficult.By the way, is it possible to see the labels of GMAIL (the folders) ?
I've created some folders in GMAIL like 'Voiture' or 'Infos' and I'm not sure I can see it.
But first, unblock POP3 please !Thank you,
SteF. -

As explained, it work with Thunderbird but not with Vivaldi.
In GMail, you can give authorisation to applications to connect to GMAIL.
I have gived authorisation for Vivaldi and for Thunderbird. So I use OAuth to connect but it only work with Thunderbird.
If Google deny access to all external applications, can you says me how Thunderbird do to connect and read mails with POP3 on GMail ? Huh ? -
If Thunderbird is set to OAuth authentication, then it can receive GMails.
Can the Vivaldi mail?
Read all about it in the link above -
I have had absolutely no success using OAuth with Vivaldi and Gmail via POP3.
However, I have had success using the 'app password' method
https://help.vivaldi.com/mail/mail-get-started/add-and-manage-mail-accounts/
and recommend you do that if you want continue using POP3 and Vivaldi (or use IMAP, or another mail client) until they get whatever straightened out.

I learned my lesson a few months ago when they broke two-pane view and their response was (literally) "Well, we don't use two-pane view here in the office so we don't really care. Maybe will fix it someday..."
I will now imbue the lesson on to you, Vivaldi may be nice to play around with, but if email is important to you, DO NOT RELY ON THEIR CLIENT
I mean, they have two "compose" buttons stacked on top of each other for crying out loud. We're not dealing with a mature, stable hunk of software here.

I tried to get into the APP-PSWD in Google account, but it came back everytime with asking a telephone number or so.
Can you pls tell me (step-by-step i'm not that young anymore
) hΓ³w to get into that APP-pswd setup?
tia -
Sure
You need to supply Google with a cell number to enable the app passwords (as it's part of two factor authentication)They send you a text message with a confirmation number, that you then confirm with them. It's a one-time only process
After setting up the two factor authentication, you will then have an option for app passwords. Select this, and select that you need a password for your email program.
Google will then generate a password that you paste in Vivaldi's setup for gmail. This password is then used for Vivaldi only. Your webmail password remains the same. Vivaldi will then ping gmail, and the account should verify.
EDIT:
If you're a fan of having email within your browser but can't use Vivaldi for whatever reason. I just set-up Seamonkey for someone here using POP3, OAuth, and gmail with absolutely no problem. So I recommend that:
https://www.seamonkey-project.org
(it's a browser/email client combo forked from Firefox/Thunderbird before they were split apart)

@jdvernet said in Vivaldi browser don't load new mails with GMail:
If you're a fan of having email within your browser
To be clear, SeaMonkey does not provide email within a browser. It provides mail client joined-at-the-hip with a browser. The two, while downloaded and installed at the same time, are not integrated. You have to leave the browser to work with email, and vice-versa.
