STARTTLS support || [Proton Bridge]
-
Yup we need to be able to set the security to none to use protonmail bridge. Every single other email client I've ever used allows this. Please update this.

Unfortunately, adding a Protonmail account to Vivaldi Mail at this stage is not possible. That's because Protonmail's bridge relies on STARTTLS, but in the initial version of Vivaldi Mail, we did not implement STARTTLS for IMAP or POP. The reason for that is that we decided to start by supporting TLS connections, which are better, because they do not require the connection to start off insecurely like STARTTLS does, and STARTTLS can be prevented by a man-in-the-middle attacker. (We support it for SMTP because of its popularity; many more services need it.) We would of course prefer for service providers to use a secure connection instead, rather than STARTTLS, but there may be technical limitations preventing Protonmail's bridge from doing so. As a result, we do want to implement STARTTLS for IMAP, in some future release.

Any ETA for the possible STARTTLS for IMAP implementation? I'd find it very useful too.
-
Very useful indeed!
-
Would the ability to change the connection security like you could for SMTP make a difference?
-
Is there any update on this? I'm interested in trying to get ProtonMail bridge to work with this.
-
Any update about this topic ?

Need a solution for this. I had high hopes for Vivaldi Mail only for them to be to be dashed!

@jane-n I have no idea how many Vivaldi users with Proton mail accounts are unable to use Vivaldi mail. I suspect there are many more than have so far commented on this forum. I for one wont even try until I learn from either Vivaldi or Proton that the bridge incompatibility has been resolved. I'd urge Vivaldi to try to collaborate rather than compete with Proton.

@Miikl
It's not really about whether we want to make it possible for Protonmail users to use Vivaldi Mail, because the answer to that is a definite yes, but more about when the dev team can start looking into it.
Last I heard, including an option to add mail accounts to Vivaldi Mail using STARTTLS and other less secure options is still in the pipeline, but devs do want to start working on it. -
Posting here to give my +1 for supporting STARTTLS on the Incoming Server configuration in Vivaldi Mail.
-
Yes. I would like to add my Protonmail to the Vivaldi email.
-
Another +1.
-
ooh no, was just looking for a way to add my proton account.
aaand another +1 -
Same here, another +1
-
I would definitely use Vivaldi Mail if I could connect Proton Bridge to it.
-
Likewise. I was able to add all my mail accounts except for Proton.
-
Agree, I found this thread trying to plan ahead and its definitely saved me some headaches but comes as something of a disappointment. Looking forward to hearing more about timelines for the implementation

There is a feature request for STARTTLS IMAP/POP support which should fix the protonmail issue.
