Cookie Auto Delete Control Panel Size Issue
-
To those who make use of Cookie Auto Delete, are you too experiencing issues opening the apps control panel?
For me, the control panel does not fully open any further than what is shown on the picture. This issue started after the last couple of updates. Then I was running CAD 3.7.X now it updated to CAD version 3.8.0.
I'm asking to see if this is an issue with Vivaldi itself. All other extension control panels fully open as they should.
Thanks

@VENIX Is this an extension?
-
@VENIX I still use a workaround for this reason. I also made a Github issue.
-
@Hadden89 Thanks I will look into your work around.
As for your github issue report, I noticed this was back in 2020. For me, CAD's control panel was showing up without issue since ever. Just after updated to version 5.3 the panel started to not fully show.
The one permanent issue I've had with CAD is that it doesn't always delete all the cookies but at least it is better than nothing. I manually take care of the left-behind unwated cookies.
To bad that the dev draws the line on Chrome/Firefox/Edge If you support Edge then why not the rest but I understand where he draws the line.

@VENIX Yeah, the popup issue is very nasty. Never managed to understand the circumstances on which it happens. in the CAD case for me - is been always.

The CAD control panel for 3.7.0 and 3.8.0 is working here on Vivaldi 5.2.

Some extensions' UI malfunction in V when
User Interface Zoom
< 99%. What is yours set at? -
@guigirl Indeed you are GUIGirl.
My UI zoom level was set to
95%
After settingUser Interface Zoom
back to100%
I can confirm that the CAD control panel is fully opening as it should.Now the odd thing is that I do not remember changing the UI zoom value to
95%
Perhaps this info can serve @Hadden89 as well
Thank you, guigirl

@VENIX Nice.
Many of us discovered this bug several years ago [especially with uMatrix as well as CAD]. Over the intervening years i stopped using CAD, & changed from uM to uBO, so i'd lost sight of the fact that this "ancient" bug still remains. Tis a pity.
-
@guigirl Interesting case. At least the bug has a simple solution.
A bit off-topic but if you don't mind me asking, how are you handling cookies. Did you find a better replacement for CAD?

It's fine to ask. Fwiw, i wrote earlier about my "cookie epiphany" & the consequent new Vivaldi "usage-paradigm" i created for myself. It's still working really well, & i intend to continue with it... but i definitely recognise this setup will be too severe for many peeps.
22/2/22: My Vivaldi COOKIE Policy.
After years of frustration [https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/559465], & after many hours testing today [https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/560273, https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/560323], i've changed my policy as follows [in order to no longer have to keep micro-managing manual cookies overview & removal].
- All cookies blocked as global policy in
chrome://settings/cookies
. - Specific subset of allowed sites [permanently (
Sites that can always use cookies
) & session (Always clear cookies when windows are closed
)] entered. Cookie AutoDelete
extension disabled.- Guardian has the most tenaciously intractable cookies; allowing them per session fails [ie, the little bastards then ignore the directive & do permanently store themselves anyway, to my chagrin]. Thus, i set
www.theguardian.com
into theSites that can never use cookies
subsection. - For Guardian, & any other random sites needing cookies to work, use Guest Window. Private Window is nfg, coz it inherits the main window's Tracker/Ad Blocking + NoCookies settings.
- In fact, further to [or indeed supplanting] #5, i later created a new dedicated profile "Session-Wipe" [V-blocking ads & trackers, cookies allowed for session-only, no extensions, no history (for pics see https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74360/deleting-browsing-data/2)], which i can invoke via context-menu from links in my daily Default profile browsing, for individual items that don't work properly in my Default... happy in the knowledge that this special profile literally retains NOTHING once i close it.

@guigirl An elegant cookie management solution using V's built-in cookie handling options.
I like the lockdown/whitelist approach to cookie management. I will be giving this cookie management a try and see how it flows for my daily driver.
Thank you for pointing out/including some of the under-the-hood annoyances and your solution for them.
It would be nice if V had the option to whitelist cookies for a website right on the Content Blocker Shield panel.
Thank you for sharing.

The problem with cookie handling is, that there are more ways for websites to store data on your computer.
There are localStorage, indexedDB, serviceWorker and the cache. All that stuff keeps piling up in the browser profile.
While these things are very useful for sites that I visit regulary, I don't want to keep them for random sites that are opened only once when searching something on the inet.I.e. take a look at vivaldi://serviceworker-internals, you might be surprised.
Maybe Ctrl-F search for "Registration" there and look at the number of hits.
