extensions if address bar hidden?

Where can I place extension on my Vivaldi, if address bar is hidden?
I recently discovered that I don't need address bar so often, but I often use Bitwarden and I need it's extension icon to work with the sites - any clue how to achieve both targets?
-
@alexanderpotemkin Move it to the Status Bar
Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
-
@Pathduck ahm... yes, I was thinking about that, tried that, but didn't find a way to do it - any clue?
I was also trying to get rid of the status bar (make it floating), so, if I can move it to the tabs bar or call just that extension with a shortcut, that would be even nicer!

@alexanderpotemkin Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the extension jigsaw puzzle icon to the Status Bar.
The Status Field can be dragged to the Address Bar if you want to hide the Status Bar.

@alexanderpotemkin This is a new feature in 5.3:

Well, ya can't have everything
But see Settings > Appearance > Status Bar. You can hide it or set it as info overlay. Won't help much in this case if you move the extensions there.
For extra minimalism, learn to use Quick Commands. You can trigger extension options dialogs from there instead, no need to even show the extensions.

@Pesala thanks, thanks!
It's Command on Mac, but it doesn't work, unfortunately - after I place the jigsaw puzzle icon to the Status Bar and it let me position it in the status bar, after I release the mouse and a keyboard, the icon just returns back to the address bar -
@Pathduck thank you! Yes, I'm aware on that option
Is there any way to assign a short-cut just for a single extension? I mean - I don't want to call a command line to type the extension, press enter, etc...
-
@alexanderpotemkin Do you have any icons on the Status Bar?
Try with the customise dialog open, then you do not need to hold Ctrl or Cmd.

It seems there's a bug on Mac where you need to release the key before letting go of the mouse, maybe?

Tools > Extensions, burger icon, keyboard shortcuts.
Unfortunately, the way Vivaldi is made, you need to set the shortcuts as "Global" for them to work properly.

you are absolutely correct, thank you! It worked when I released the keyboard Cmd before releasing on the status bar. But, yeah, it feels like a bug.
Shortcut also works, but here is another bug
If an extension is placed on the status bar and the status bar is anything but shown (hidden or overlay), extension is not activated by a short-cut. It does, although, from a hidden address bar.And one more bug: if the address bar is placed at the bottom and I call it with Cmd + L - it appears wild on the screen; it works fine, it address bar is fixed at the top and hidden as well.

Oh it's definitely a bug, relating to MacOS specifically. I have no idea if it's already reported.
For other issues that pop up I suggest:
- Spend some time investigating the issue first
- Test and reproduce the issue in a new profile
- Write up a step-by-step guide how to reproduce the issue
- If you feel it necessary to get confirmation from others, post a new topic on the forum asking others to test
- Make a good bug report that can be easily reproduced by the bug testers

How to report a bug for Vivaldi
Some of these issues might be specific to MacOS and I'm on Windows. It's best to get someone on the MacOS forum to test if you're unsure a bug is reproducible.
Also, the new customisable toolbars feature is new, there's bound to be a lot of bugs with different UI setups and important they are reported so they can be fixed quickly.

Oh thereβs no need to report it. This message has been in the toolbar editor since the toolbar editor was introduced in the snapshots as an experiment.

@AltCode I guess not everyone are curious enough to click the (

@Pathduck it does make one wonder why they would go ahead with the move from shift to ctrl/cmd when it was known there was a bug with it in macOS, or why the change from shift to ctrl/cmd was so poorly communicatedβ¦ (Hidden behind the β?β button as you just said!)
-
@AltCode I wonder why so many users fail to Read the Free Manual.
Move components
To move a component thatβs already on the toolbar, hold down the Ctrl / β key and drag the component to the new location. -
@Pesala Hereβs one idea: it was very common knowledge already that the shift key was employed to move buttons that no one expected it would be changed to be the ctrl/cmd instead.
Since no one expected the change, and this change was so poorly communicated, no one bothered to read the free manual again for a feature they were already familiar with (since this feature preceded the addition of the toolbar editor).
The manual also fails to mention that on macOS, this behaviour is bugged.

@AltCode It is hard to think of a way to communicate such a change to all users. It could/should have been made clearer on the blogs/forum, but most users do not visit here. It took me a while to notice the change.
I would expect, if a feature seems to be broken, that users would:
- Read the help file
- Search the forum
- Register and post here or on Reddit if they are not already a member.
- The question mark on the customise dialog is probably the best way to inform users who will be using the Edit Toolbar dialog for the first time.

Yes, on that I agree, having it mentioned on the blogs/forum would have been far more than what we got.

If most people do not visit the blog and/or forum, what makes you think they're more likely to read the help pages?

I noticed it immediately, but that was because when it was just a toggle from
vivaldi://experiments
, the change from shift to ctrl/cmd had been more clearly communicated to us snapshot users.@Pesala said in extensions if address bar hidden?:

So far, that is not what I have observed in the forums or elsewhere. From my own observations and expectations, people are more likely to:
- Post on reddit or discord when they have a problem/buh.
- Report a bug or post the problem/bug on the forum when instructed to do so on those two platforms.
- Search the forum about the problem/bug they have.
- Look at the help pages after being directed to them by a user here in the forums or report a bug.
(Obviously, these observations are very limited and might not represent what all people are likely to do).
