Randomly not completely loading at startup
-
This has been going on for a couple of months and on a couple different PC's. When I start Vivaldi, I just get the initial Vivaldi startup screen (attached) and nothing else. No buttons or tabs, so I have to kill the process and restart. Vivaldi will then start normally with all my tabs etc.
I can't seem to find a pattern as it could happen twice in a day or go for several days without happening. Could be loaded with 20+ tabs or under 10.
I don't think it's a setting since I'm not changing anything and not even closing other programs. It just starts up the next time.
I'm on 5.2.2623.46 (Stable channel) (32-bit) on Windows 10 x64. I've tried 64-bit Vivaldi but that one wouldn't get past the start screen. Occasionally it would flash my tabs, and then back to nothing.
Any ideas?

Are you able to open the standard Windows menu (
[ALT]
+[SPACEBAR]
)?I've had this issue myself for a couple of versions (using internal builds), and I have never managed to find a reliable way to reproduce it. Even when I copied my whole profile to another installation, the issue didn't occur there. For me, it happened only after the first launch of Vivaldi, after a system reboot. I think it could've been linked to extensions, but I no longer experience this issue, so I can't check.

It actually happened today on another computer as well. There was a Vivaldi update to 5.2.2623.46 (64-bit this time), and then I had to restart Vivaldi 8 or 9 times before the tabs would load. I tried killing the plugin processes as well, just to see if that would kickstart it, but that didn't do anything.

It just happens randomly for me. I leave my work PC on all week (no sleep mode) and occasionally restart Vivaldi just to free up memory and it randomly fails to start. My PC at home is put to sleep or restarted more often and it happens there randomly as well. I've tried to find some common action but can't find one.
The only other thing I've noticed that started around the same time but likely unrelated is that I can't send a page to my other devices anymore. I can see the pages on other devices with the Synced Tab icon so at least some part of the sync is working. I've tried logging out and back in with no change.

Try using the "Reopen closed tab" command from that menu. It should bring back the window with the last session (or empty, depending on your startup settings). For me, it always started after a second attempt. And it never occurred again until I restarted the PC. But as I said, I'm not experiencing it anymore.
Perhaps you could try setting up a new, clean profile or install a separate instance of Vivaldi as standalone, and use it for a while. It would be interesting to see if the issue can be triggered there too.

@pafflick I did try the "Reopen closed tab" as well as all other options and nothing worked.
I'll see about the standalone option or new profile later, if life gets less busy. Right now, I can get by with a restart. As long as it's only 1.

@rsimmons For me, the "Reopen closed tab" always worked without fail. So I guess it's a different issue after all. And it looks like you're the only one reporting it so far, so if you could provide more feedback, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
