Ubuntu 22.04: Save as doesn't fully work
-
Since the upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04, I cannot save files into some specific folders from Vivaldi. /tmp works, but a folder inside /home does not. There is no error message, I click on "save" after choosing the folder, but nothing happens, the file doesn't get saved.
-
Same here, but Chrome is also affected. Firefox and Thunderbird are showing this behaviour if installed as snap not deb.
-
Perhaps you use SElinux, apparmor or some other sandbox program to protect your user folder.
-
@doctorg If so, the update would have installed or configured this without my consent. I don't think so. And how come, that other browsers (like Firefox from PPA) can save there?
Maybe Chrome (engine) is the right hint, but I'm far away from being sure. -

Can happen after a Ubuntu Linux update.
And how come, that other browsers (like Firefox from PPA) can save there?
As Ubuntu repo packages they have own apparmor rules.

Ah ok, didn't know this, thanks for telling me!

Ok, this is a good hint. For I'm not familiar with these things, I will wait for someone who is to find out what's happening.

I saw some popular browser rules are in
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/ubuntu-browsers
I do not know if adding a rule in
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/ubuntu-browsers helps:/opt/vivaldi{,-snapshot}/vivaldi Cx -> sanitized_helper, /usr/bin/vivaldi Cx -> sanitized_helper, /usr/bin/vivaldi{,-stable,-snapshot} Cx -> sanitized_helper,
May be this helps, i about apparmor and related to Vivaldi (i can not test).
Got inspiration by https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/33591/vivaldi-opening-from-a-link-in-a-pdf-file/8

You can try clicking on the file name before saving.
-
@ekevu Any messages in syslog at the time when this happens?
-
I checked Vivaldi 5.2.2623.41 + 5.3.2658.3 on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and i could save to /home/test/ (is the current user folder).

[...]Testet this, but doesn't change the behavior. The "clicking the filename"-workaround still does the trick for me.

Not needed for me, tested a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. installation
Strange issue for @ekevu and @steffelchen.

I did a few tests and can confirm that clicking on the file name works. The problem occurs apparently when the path to save the file is too long. You can reproduce this if you create a longer path like /home/user/accounting/year/month/client or similar and try to save into every single folder. At some point if you go further, it will stop working - unless you click on the file name, of course.

@ekevu Most probably a GNOME bug, not a Vivaldi issue. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4907

Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for Linux on

@Erbremar Where do I click on file name?
thanks,
