Solved Browser keeps closing / crashing on its own
-
Closing (not quitting) Vivaldi and 20 to 30 minutes later, reopening the app and has crashed.
This started on version 34 but was somewhat limited to the first day. It seemed to have settled. With this version (39), every time for the last 2 days.
EDIT: 2 times on the first day (v.34); 3 times in v.36; and 9 times the next 2 days (v.39).I'm having much trouble extracting the crash log as per your directives:
However, I was able to find and create a zip file of the report. A snapshot of the header for basic info:
I'm not familiar with annexing the file. Instructions are not clear. -
I'm having a similar problem on my M1 MacBook (all systems updated). Downloads are working fine, but recent versions are all freezing up, then auto-quitting at random times. Sometimes it happens very soon after startup, sometimes when opening two or more tabs soon after each other, sometimes at other random times. Very hard to make sense of.
I use Vivaldi as the best browser for screen sharing during my online lessons as a teacher, so this is a pretty big deal for me. All my hours of trying to fix it myself have failed.
(Edited to add: Even old version of Vivaldi, such as 5.1, are having this problem, when they definitely weren't at the time when they were new. Could there be some sort of configuration corruption? I've tried using a guest profile, but I'm still getting the same problem with that, so I had thought I ruled out that possibility.)

Crashed again as i was working in Firefox even, copying a URL to paste into a note in Vivaldi....

Unfortunately the latest version of Vivaldi keeps crashing after a while. This even happens when leaving the system completely alone for a few minutes or some hours with a few (ca. 5) windows open in Vivaldi. Don't know yet how to reproduce it, but it keeps reoccurring.

And again a few hours later, clicking on a tax preparation link

What extensions do people have and are they using the mail client beta in Vivaldi?
-
Crashes 8 - 10 times a day now. No reason...just closes. No extensions. Cleared cache. Reinstalled new with updates. I could be writing a post, or reading a newspaper, or just doing nothing. It started with last major update about a month ago. Second bug fix made it worse. MacOS 12.3.1 intel.
I'm starting to lose work and it's unacceptable.

@chas4
Will try turning my only extension, "Cisco Webex Extension
1.17.0" -
@nanamahina
turning "off" -
Vivaldi crashes without any activity.
Vivaldi.5.2.2623.39 on MacOS 10.14.6
I had Vivaldi completely removed and installed this newest Version. It crashes without any activity, as I was checking, if it would still use up all energy (see other report).
I had a former .dmg available: Vivaldi.5.1.2567.66.universal.dmg.
Since installing this one I do not have any problem so far (knock on aluminum). -
Vivaldi gave me TWO crashes today.
Hint to the developers: Check Vivaldi's clipboard handling. I suspect an incompatible clipboard format could be the cause of the crashes.

@chas4
Thanks for the word! No crashes all day since turning off my only extension "Cisco Webex Extension 1.17.0." Vivaldi! -
@nanamahina
Crashed again during Mission Control time (insert words of choice here), despite 0 extensions on. Will be using Firefox and reading this forum until Vivaldi gets better. -
I'm getting these "crashes" (which don't register as crashes in the crash log) even with older versions of Vivaldi. At the time that they were new, those versions did not have this problem though. I also tried quitting all other apps I could see that might be interfering with Vivaldi and making it crash, all with no effect. That makes me think that the problem must have something to do with some kind of invisible Vivaldi helper application that has been updated to the latest version. Using an old version of Vivaldi wouldn't help because the helper would still be the latest version that's causing the crash. Could that be possible?

Even the latest version (5.2.2623.39 (Stable channel) (x86_64)), still randomly crashes.
Open few tabs, woking in other app (for example Word), copy and paste text to word, want to return back to Vivaldi and it closed itself/crashed in the meantime.
Happens repeatedly throughout the day. -
@jjaarreekk Regrettably I must agree. I have continuing crashing problems. I like Vivaldi and will continue to use it however, it will be a 'backup' rather than my primary browser.
Such a pity, it was a crackingly good browser until a few updates ago. I have no doubt the folks at Vivaldi will address this at some stage - I'm sure they're aiming to sort it now - but unless sorted quickly they'll lose folk to other browsers.
I wish them luck.

Starting to switch to another browser. These crashes are just getting beyond my patience.

I've submitted two bugs with multiple crash reports: VB-88077 (on Apr 6 with 6 crashes) and VB-88692 (today, Apr 20 with 3 crashes).
Originally v5.2.2623.24 (an upgrade from v5.1 for me) crashed immediately every time I opened a 'New Private Window'.
Now, v5.2.2623.39 crashes intermittently; I just leave the 'New Private Window' open in the background. The most recent crash occurred after appx. 55 minutes... not sure what's going on since I continue using the computer for other things.
I should note that I am running on macOS Mojave 10.14.6 which is no longer the latest hotness, and I've never used any extensions. At this point Vivaldi is not reliable enough to really use for anything; looking forward to when this is resolved.

vivaldi keeps crashing on latest version on mac. if you close a window and then open one again, it freezes and then nukes itself. Also happens if you switch between private and normal window

Re: Latest Vivaldi keeps crashing
Vivaldi suddenly quits even when not being used for a few minutes (e.g. while reading Apple mail). Occurs several times per day! No crash report appears, unlike other apps that freeze or quit unexpectedly (rare event compared to Vivaldi crashes lately). This has been ongoing since the major update, although some other update problems were fixed with the most recent minor update.Computer is M1 mac mini with latest Monterey. Uninstalled and reinstalled Vivaldi a week ago due to earlier problems. Hesitate to do that again because preferences and bookmarks are lost.
