PWA add to homescreen on mobile

PWA add to homescreen on mobile devices.
-
Hey @kevinknight!
You can already do that from Vivaldi menu (Vivaldi logo on the Address Bar) > Add to Home screen.

I don't think you understand the request.
A properly designed PWA does not require manually adding to homescreen. Yes, that has always worked with any website but PWA should not need to be done that way on Android.
Vivaldi on mobile (Android) does not allow the "Add to Homescreen" button to appear at the footer during a PWA page launch from url.
FYI, It works properly and automatically in every other Chromium based browser.

I shouldn't have to do it manually. PWA should be able to launch the add to homescreen button in footer but it doesn't work on Vivaldi.

Please share a few links to websites where the "Add to Homescreen" message should pop up.
I know that this forum has it and when checking on the Android version of Vivaldi, it does show up. But if you dismiss the message on your first visit, it won't be shown in the future. To see "Add to Homescreen" message again, you need to delete cookies for the site.

@jane-n - I just tested again with my own PWAs and what I'm noticing is that some work perfectly and some don't. Some other vendor's PWAs do work with the 'add to homescreen' popup in the footer of the page during first installation.
In the case of the ones that I built using Siberian CMS and PWA modules, they detect the PWA that's already installed on Chrome while not recognizing some of the others and just following through with the popup.
- If Vivalidi recognizes the PWA on Chrome as already being installed (not installed on Vivaldi), then it offers to open it instead of continuing the install process and onboarding of the PWA.
Now that I successfully got one to install after cleaning up all evidence of the PWA on Chrome (Android), ever launch want of the page in Vivalidi Mobile, shows the popup. Therefore, there's still something not quite right in the behaviror in how PWA support handles the 'Add to homescreen' automation.
** I have deleted cache/cookies to ensure that they were not causing the issue.
Overall, I think it's workable for most users and many may not attempt to run the app again on their browser of they install the PWA so it's less of an issue but still something needs to be looked at.
I'm happy to create a simple PWA for your team to test with if that would help.

Here's a simple PWA I created for your team to test with in case this might help. https://pwapromo.pwadirectory.comThis works fine if it's never been previously installed on the Chrome browser (currently default) However, if install on Vivalidi, everything works as expected initially. Except, if I launch again in Vivalid as if not installed, it still has PWA add to homescreen.
Then, I installed on Chrome, now both icons are on desktop. Either works but...Then old behavior returns in that if I now re-launch url on Vivalid, the add to homescreen doesn't launch.
Then Remove the PWA from Chrome icon...
Then launch url of pwa (instead of icon) and add to homescreen popup returns.
I think it's mostly ok the way you have it on Vivalid but... Once installed, it needs to detect that and now attempt to add to homescreen every time.
While I don't think most people would install a PWA on multiple browsers in production, I originally didn't install first on Vivaldi.
FYI, Opera doesn't have this behvior, it's the same as Chrome or Brave.
Again, not sure what it is, could be a default browser setting or you're doing something different than the others.
I'm not 100% sure if this can be reproduced with every PWA from every development platform but it's likely.
Thanks again for looking at this behavior as this is the only thing that keeps me from recommending using Vivaldi for my PWAs and in my own case as default browser.

Thanks for the additional information. The dev team would need to investigate a bit. Please create a bug report on https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/. Include step by step instructions to reproduce this issue.
I'm happy to create a simple PWA for your team to test with if that would help.
That would be awesome and very helpful, but a link to an existing website or few, with which you've been able to reproduce the bug, is already enough.
Please also add a link to this forum discussion in the bug report and share the ticket number you receive in an email with me.
PS! I'll move the discussion to Android's support and troubleshooting category, since it's no longer a simple archived feature request.

Thanks for your response. I'll create a ticket and follow up here. BTW, I did create the PWA and put it above in a response because I couldn't edit the other post after the time limit.
Here's the link for you to test with. https://pwapromo.pwadirectory.com
I'll add the ticket info and details shortly.
Thanks again.
