Solved Internet access is blocked
-
Hi!
I installed the new update for Vivaldi this morning (2022.03.17.) on a Windows 7 machine. So it's the 5.1.2567.66 (Stable channel) (32-bit) version, which is making this error.
When I try to load certain websites I get the following error message:However, my internet is working fine as I can load these websites in another browser (Opera). I have already restarted the machine, hoping it was some kind of cache problem. It didn't resolve it. I even renamed the history file, hoping that was causing the problem, but still no luck. It seems to me that this message pops up mostly randomly. Including when I tried to login to this forum. The only exception is that when I type in anything in the address field, this error message will greet me always. My default search engine is duckduckgo, but it also works on the other browser.

@wildente You were right. It was the doing of the firewall. I tried to add to and remove Vivaldi from it, but it was still somehow partly blocking the browser. As some websites loaded, some didn't. But I don't get why not every site.
Anyway, I reinstalled ZoneAlarm, and now Vivaldi works again.
Thank you! -
@murlocq do you run special firewall or antivirus software as it says in the error description? Potentially your antivirus does not recognize Vivaldi as legit anymore. Avast in particular is a known offender.

@murlocq Try advices from this article https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/

@wildente I'm using ZoneAlarm. And it's set to ask allow internet access to programmes. And I snoozed it to check will it allow or not. But the problem persisted. I'll check if I turn it off completely will Vivaldi behave differently.

Personal opinion, these 3rd party firewall and anti-virus programs are just trouble. They have to block things and tell you constantly how threatened you are in order to justify their existence. On Windows the integrated firewall and virus protection are pretty decent these days and don't get in the way.
