Solved Where are the answers to Questions
-
I notice questions but don't see any answers. Are they posted somewhere else or is the forum just for venting?
-
@rvbv There isn't a place to click where others respond. It's just a thread. If the question is asked but no one answered, then all you will see is the question. If anyone answered, you will see an entire discussion thread under the topic - just as is happening here. What you and I are doing is: You are asking questions, and I am answering. The result is a discussion.
Recently, the forums were updated to make it possible for moderators to mark some answer somewhere in the discussion as the "Solution." I THINK that makes it float to the top of the discussion, but I'm not sure - the mark-as-solution function is not in broad use yet, and I have, in fact, never tried it.

@rvbv
a) This forum is international, not everyone is in your timezone.
b) Not everyone who is present will have a suitable response to every question.
c) It is quite possible that very few people are active at any particular moment. -
They're in the box, next to the ambiguity.

@rvbv There are thousands and thousands of answers. Most topics contain answers. When someone on the forum sees a question to which they know the answer, and they want to answer it, they do so. If a question does not get answered, it will be because no one who read it really understood what was being asked (and in such a case, they might even ask, "what do you mean?" - or they might not), or no one who read the question knew the answer.
There is no one on the forums whose job is "answer questions." But since we are all citizen volunteers here, and we are a cooperative community, most people who participate try to answer questions if they can.

Well, I'm glad you're all having a great time at my expense.
If there are people who are willing to help me figure this out, I honestly
don't want to post questions that have already been answered. Please direct me to where I might find responses to the questions posted on the Forum. -
@rvbv You search the forum for the subject matter you think might have been posted before, you get a list of possible topics, and you read those topics to see if they are applicable. There is not an "answers" category. There are merely thousands of discussions threads.
Now I have to say, the search facility provided by the software vendor (NodeBB) that built the software for hosting these forums is kind of terrible - not at all intuitive, and sometimes ineffective. https://community.nodebb.org/topic/12157/search-unreliable But it's what we have. And the thing we ask users to do before they ask a new question is to run a forum search and see if there are topics on the subject already.
If you search and can't find something, then by all means please ask about it as though no one ever though of it before. No one will hold it against you.

Thank You, for your thoughtful answer.
I'm just not seeing a place to click where others respond to the person's question. -

@rvbv In fact, looking for that function, I can't find it. So maybe it's that the originator of the thread is the only one who can mark a solution. I'm not sure.

I'm getting a clearer picture. Thanks so much.

@rvbv OK, I figured it out. In order to enable the "this is the answer" function; FIRST, the topic has to be marked under topic tools, "ask this as a question." This adds an "unsolved" tag to the topic. Then someone can mark a reply in the thread as the "answer" and it gets shown in a box right below the question. But as I say, this functionality isn't really in broad use as yet.

Got it. Thanks

@rvbv You should also know that hitting F1 will take you to the Vivaldi help pages, which contain articles about basic operation of the browser, its features, etc. The development and support team is quite small, so one cannot guarantee that the articles will be exhaustive or up to date. This is what passes for a sort of "manual" for Vivaldi for the time being.

Thanks, that is helpful.
I noticed an error:
In the Help Section, In the “Private Windows” section, the following sentence is incorrect:
“If you have forgotten to use private browsing mode, you can select Clear Private Data from the Tools menu.” The Tools menu doesn’t have an option for “Clear Private Data”, just “Delete Browsing Data” This may be something that wasn’t updated, in any case it is misleading, as if there is still a need to do this. -

Thank you!! -
Thanks for actually checking it out. In my business, we've made a point to
evaluate our presence and everything we put out through the lens of visitors.
