Solved "can't send mail - All recipients were rejected"
-
Hi,
I use daily the Mail client built into Vivaldi browser. My Vivaldi version is 4.3.2439.65 (Stable channel) (32-bit).
Since today, I can't send mails anymore. When I click the Send button I always get this notification popup (and it also appears in the status bar at the bottom of Vivaldi) : "can't send mail - All recipients were rejected".
Things to know :
- I didn't have any issue until today.
- I didn't change anything in the settings.
- Closing and relaunching Vivaldi doesn't solve the issue.
- If I use the web interface of my mail provider, I can send mails.
- It happens with different mails and different recipients, gmail for example but not only.
- I have only one recipient by mail I try to sent. Not multiple recipients.
- It happens even if I have only 1 mail in the outbox, so it's not one mail blocking other ones.
Thanks in advance for any help

@gmg I can confirm that the issue is solved now, with today's snapshot. Again, thank you and keep up your great work !
PS : I will delete the test email account I had created for you, since I suppose you don't need it anymore.
-
@elgar82 This will happen if you're replying to a mail:to link, but not currently in the Vivaldi window containing the mail client. Also happens for no apparent reason in the mail client window, sometimes, but especially when sending to Gmail addresses.
May be fixed in the latest Snapshot. I have not seen it for a while.
-
@pesala I just switched to snapshot 4.4.2493.3 (Official Build) (64-bit).
Issue is still there. I never use mail:to links, so it's not the culprit.
And as I said, it happens with every kind of addresses, Gmail, Outlook, and other mail providers.
I have been using the mail client built into Vivaldi for months, without any issue. But now I can't use it anymore. At all. I can receive mails but I can't send any. It's a bummer of course. Especially since I was using it heavily at work. Back to Opera Mail, I guess.
I enabled the "Turn on SMTP logs in console" setting in Mail settings, but I don't see anything in the console. Where should I check the debugging log?
-
@elgar82 I would try deleting and adding back the accounts one by one.
-
The issue solved itself yesterday, and I did nothing. It was probably an issue with my mail provider smtp server. What's strange is that I was able to send mails with Opera Mail the last days. But it's not set up exactly the same way, not the same server and the same port.
FWIW, oddly enough, I wasn't able to set up Vivaldi like Opera Mail : if I choose the same server/port/protocol, Vivaldi rejects it. That's why I used another configuration, since my mail provider allows us to choose among several ones for outgoing servers.
Anyway, all's well that ends well.
EDIT : I don't know how to mark this thread as "solved", sorry.
-
I didn't update this thread, because honestly I was so disappointed by the mail feature of Vivaldi browser.
Ok, so in my previous post, I said that the issue solved itself. But it was only for 1 day. Issue came back the following day. Since that time (almost two months) I wasn't able to send a SINGLE mail with Vivaldi. I always get the "can't send mails - All recipients were rejected" message. So I have been using the Vivaldi mail feature only to read my messages. But each time I need to send a mail, I have to open Opera Mail.
As I said in a previous post, Opera Mail is set up differently : different smtp server, different port. But if try to use these settings in Vivaldi, it doesn't work, the settings are not accepted. To be honest I didn't search further and, even if I was upset, I continued using Vivaldi to read my mails (because it's my main browser) and Opera to send my mails.
But today I decided to try Thunderbird. I use the exact same settings than in Vivaldi (same smtp server, same port, same credentials) and it works perfectly. I can send mails. If I try in Vivaldi, I always get the "can't send mails - All recipients were rejected" message.
So it's really a Vivaldi issue. Devs, please help me solving this. I don't want to use Opera. I don't want to use Thunderbird. I would like to be able to use Vivaldi, like it used to work for months before this issue came out of nowhere in November.
Before someone suggests it again : as Pesala suggested, I tried deleting and adding back the account. No change. And by the way, I also use Vivaldi on another computer, and I have the same issue. Also, my colleague at work has the same issue with her mail account, which uses the same smtp server since it's our company mail.
Any help appreciated.

Have to know a bit more about the setup.
What's the latest version you tried?
Are you logging in using OAuth? Are these large accounts or pop accounts?
If not we could try whether re-indexing works -

I always use the latest Vivaldi desktop browser snapshot version on my computer at work. On my coworker's computer, it's always the latest stable version.
-
I don't know what is OAuth. I don't see any related setting in Vivaldi browser? In the mail account settings window in Vivaldi, I enter the imap and smtp servers, the ports and the credentials. The "Connection Security" field is SSL/TLS. By the way, I always have the green "Verified" bar.
-
Yes, as stated above, these are imap mail accounts, not pop. The issue occurs with every account, large or small. Mine has a few thousands mails (4789 received messages and 2812 sent ones, currently), but even with fresh accounts, I can read received mails but I can't send any.
-
As I'm the admin of my company mail accounts, I just created one for you. If you want, I can give you in private message the settings and the credentials, so you can check by yourself.
-
I'm going to try the reindexing now, and I will tell you the result as soon as possible. But since the issue occurs with every computer and mail account, I doubt it can be the solution. But I will try it right now nevertheless.
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.

@gmg I can confirm that the re-indexing didn't solve the issue.
-
Ok, so since re-indexing didn't work just some extra questions.
I presume you have- Signed in to the SMTP client again (signed wrong for example and signed in again)
- You've tested this on a clean profile
As I'm the admin of my company mail accounts, I just created one for you. If you want, I can give you in private message the settings and the credentials, so you can check by yourself.
At that point I think I might need a test email account if you could email the details to me on that one?
I don't know what is OAuth
This is supported in M3 for Gmail accounts, Yahoo, Hotmail, Outlook, Office365 (you can see what I'm talking about if you try to set up an account, for example [email protected], it will pop up a window which supports 2FA and such)

- Hello, yes I tried sign in to the SMTP client again.
- No, I didn't test with a clean profile. I don't know how to do that. But as already explained, we have this issue with every mail account, on different computers, at work and at home. And when I install Vivaldi somewhere, I never import anything, so I guess it's a clean profile each time.
I sent you, by chat, the details for the test email account I created for you. I used the chat feature (from your profile) because I couldn't find your email.
-
Hi, gmg, any news please? Could you at least just test if you can send mails with the account I created specifically for you? It will take 2 minutes for you to make this test... Thank you.
-
@Elgar82
Found the issue. Did you already make a bug for this?// Edit: I made VB-86371

-
@gmg Awesome ! Thank you SO MUCH ! Finally I will be able to use Vivaldi again to send mails, after all this time.
I can't wait to try the next snapshot.

@gmg I can confirm that the issue is solved now, with today's snapshot. Again, thank you and keep up your great work !

Sadly it is not solved. Still exists in 5.1.2567.39.
-
@ghpy I just tested it at home with stable 5.1.2567.39 and it works for me, no issue.
I will test it later at work with snapshot version.

@ghpy
If it's the same issue as @Elgar82 saw then you can simply- Go to mail server settings for account
- Change SSL to StartTls for Outgoing server
- Change it back to SSL/TLS
I'm about to push and update script so this happens automatically, but new accounts set up should be set up correctly.
I am on 5.4.2753.47 and still have the "can't send mail - All recipients were rejected" error despite doing the above steps.
The problem makes the otherwise great app unusable as I have send mail from another mail agent.
