Solved Many pages crashing 100% of the time
-
Hi there, yesterday I reinstalled my OS and installed Vivaldi again and noticed that many popular websites, ones that I use a lot, crash very often. Certain YouTube videos wouldn't play, instead crashing the tab, on other pages they just wouldn't load for more than 1 second before crashing every time. It makes the browser unusable, and I can't even keep the console open to see what's failing. I tried disabling all my extensions and even using incognito, certain pages just don't open. I can get a report.wer file of a crash if helpful. Very annoying.

@egrodo Then you also have to install the Windows Media Feature Pack or every time you try to run video, you will crash the page.

@egrodo
Hi, can you add some links to such pages, Youtube never crash for me?
Please add your Windows and Vivaldi version.
Do you check latest update to Vivaldi 5.1?Cheers, mib

I'm pretty sure it's an issue with my computer and not affecting everyone, but it's very big websites. One that repros consistently is https://www.gifyourgame.com. It makes the whole window black for a split second then shows me the dead bird on that tab. Using latest version of Vivaldi 5.1.2567, Windows version 21H2
-
@egrodo Does it work in Guest Window?
Perhaps Vivaldi's ad/tracker blocker and/or extension which causes a crash of tab. -
Same problem here with the new update, 64 bit version.
The vivaldi.exe instances start to eat lot of memory, always increasing (no pages open, nstarted in 'safe mode' with --disable-extensions command-line)The new system does not work (tab switch horizontal) and make the whole system unstable.

@cipollino
Hi, I checked with a clean standalone Vivaldi 5.1 install and set horizontal tabs, no RAM leaking, no crash.
With 3 tabs open it takes 400MB stable, 0-1% CPU usage.
Some extensions influence the browser even when they are disabled.
Please check guest profil as @DoctorG mention.Cheers, mib

Guest mode unfortunately didn't change anything. Could someone give instructions as to how I can analyze this crash report.wer file and figure out what's really going on?
-
@egrodo Have you tried enabling/disabling the hardware acceleration? Perhaps there's some conflict with system drivers, or a 3rd-party application interfering with the browser. Make sure to perform tests in a clean profile and that the browser is running without any extra command parameters. For more information, please refer to the Troubleshooting issues guide.

Have the exact same problem.
64-Bit version 5.1.2567.39 (Stable channel) (64-bit).
Disabeling Extentions dose not help.It keeps eating memory till all of my 64 gigs are gone and than crashes.
A new profile seems to fix it for now. but... ye. would want to keep my old one cause everything is there.

An update from me, it seems to have gotten better over the last few days -- now when I try to load the initial gifyourgame website it will still flash black but after a few seconds it lets me use the website as normal. So, progress?

@tsumitsuki
Hi, if you use Vivaldi sync it is easy to get your data back, simply sync your new profile.
If not you can copy most important data from the old profile to the new one, than move the default profile folder "Default" to a save place and rename the new profile to default.
In this page is a list of files you can copy:https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10388/refreshing-or-cleaning-your-profile

Despite it being slightly better, many pages still crash, including Reddit which I use often. This is becoming intolerable and I'll probably have to switch away from Vivaldi if I can't resolve
Pls someone tell me how to actually analyze the crash and figure out what's going on..
-
I'm also just experiencing random parts of pages malfunction, like today I can't load twitter videos (no errors in console, no failed network requests..). And this league of legends site u.gg blackscreens me every time. Tried disabling hardware acceleration, no diff

@egrodo
Hi, did you check: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/reporting-crashes-on-windows/#Submitting_Vivaldi_crash_logsOn Windows crash dumps are created, I am not sure if they are human readable.
Cheers, mib

@egrodo Is your Windows version N or KN by any chance?
-
@ayespy Windows 10 Pro N, installed from the USB tool
-
@egrodo Then you also have to install the Windows Media Feature Pack or every time you try to run video, you will crash the page.
-
@ayespy Wow, you know what, I think that actually was the issue. I just fresh installed Windows didn't even know what the N meant and how it would effect browsers. Terribly sorry for insinuating it was an issue with Vivaldi, but super happy I can use it again. #solved
