How can I change profile images?
-
I found the current set of profile images lacking for my way of using them.
I found those profiles to work extreamly well for topic-related stuff. Different profiles for work projects, different profile for watching movies, different profile for fun, different profile for shopping, for banking, for cryptocurrencies and so on. Each of them has different set of panels, notes, way the tabs are displayed, shorcuts, themes, search engines and a lot more, which is simply fantastic.I like it that way, and it works well. Although, when I create new profile I have to select from a range of weird faces, or landscapes(?). Sometimes it can be kinda spot-on but rarely.
Can I change those easily? What should be proper image size and type for it to work flawlessly?
And I'm talking both - changing current profile images, but also maybe I can install some set of icons instead those which are available by default? -
@whiteblueribbon
Hi - unfortunately the profile icons rely on the hard-coded icons available in Chromium base, and can't be customised (at least what I know of).never mind.If you sign into Vivaldi Sync, it will use your Vivaldi Community profile picture, and you can change this on the top-right when logged in at Vivaldi.net.
-
I'm probably misunderstanding the objective, so prepare yourselves to smirk at me.
Is this not what you want?
It was simply doing that, yonks ago, in my "proper" ie default, profile, that allowed me to use my forum icon as my profile icon [i do not sync].
Are we talking about different things?
-
@guigirl Of course, you're right
Just staying logged in to Sync always and never having a use for even seeing the profile icon, I forgot that function even existed...
-
@pathduck Oh thank goodness, i was almost convinced i had misunderstood, coz the moment i read the OP, i remembered this, but then when i saw yours, i pretty much decided i was wrong, & nearly didn't post. Phew.
-
@guigirl Hey it can even be animated
Although I'd be careful with too large GIFs, might take a good long while to launch.
-
@pathduck Well, that's sure not distracting...
Shirley!
-
@guigirl Yeah, basically this, but why the hell I don't have this button then?
Also editing sucks, because there is no way to change. -
Also, I don't want to be signed in on each profile. That was not the case. I've always asked both Opera ages ago, and then Vivaldi to add this feature to be able to create and easily switch task-oriented windows.
And I'm using profiles for that. But here on my Ubuntu 21. something (recent LTE):- I never seen pick a file option
- I cannot edit profile images
- And which I just noticed after update I cannot add new profiles anymore (!!!). I have 9 of them.
-
Yeah, and since I cannot show you create new profile window, I'll show you at least how my edit profile popup looks like.
So I can basically only delete "person" (it isn't a person, but meh, whatever).
-
I've always had trouble explaining what I want from a browser.
I see for some reason it always raises some confusion.
I'm the only person using my computer, and I'm logged to my linux profile anyway. I don't really see a reason for using "profiles" for different persons (aka real people).I usually have two or three Vivaldi windows opened each with different set of task oriented tabs (and all other stuff). I don't want to login to vivaldi sync in each profile. That would be weird.
Can I even have many profiles on one account? I don't know but I can imagine plenty of scenarios where this could cause more problems then it solves (like tab syncing).
Because creating many vivaldi accounts for myselfs is sounds like a Harry Potter spell (Ridiculous!). -
What is your Vivaldi version?
Edit is right here:
Yes, I know it's not that obvious that three dots means a menu.
-
There is no even a Feature Request subforum where I could ask for features regarding my browser usage. This is sad.
-
@pathduck 5.0.2497.51 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
And I was talking about editing profile image (I miss that).
-
@whiteblueribbon You cannot change the picture for an existing profile - the "filepicker" option only appears when creating a new profile!
Whether you want to delete/recreate your profiles just to change the avatar....
-
@whiteblueribbon said in How can I change profile images?:

Do you mean... https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/113/feature-requests ?
-
@tbgbe yep and this is sad, very sad.
And trust me I never saw a pick a file button for some reason. And now I even cannot add more profiles. -
@tbgbe Yes I mean that, but there are sub-sub formus in desktop related only to certain things (tabs/panels etc.), and I don't really know where I could adress the profile question. Since profiles are basically everything that and more. I'm missing general request or something.
-
Ok, found it, its in settings, and there is a long thread from few people using profiles in similar way.
-
@whiteblueribbon I understand your confusion. Again it's not really obvious to new users.
You click the Name of the Profile, that's what the
>
is meant to show I guess, but it's easily missed:You then get the "avatar" selection menu.
I did a video to show you:
https://ttm.sh/iIc.mp4And I was talking about editing profile image (I miss that).
I kind of understood that, but it seemed you keep creating new posts instead of editing them so thought it a good idea to show it just in case
