Add Searchable Tags for Bookmarks

This is precisely why politicians must listen to every letter they receive on any given topic. The ratio varies but the fact is one letter represents the views of many people.
This is not really a political topic, so I try to keep it short.
Unfortunately the reality is most politician don't listen to voter on any topic, they only listen to the highest bidder's $$$ & sometimes in a very rare occasion, the loudest outcries from the majority that might jeopardize his political career if he choose to ignore.
This is just the same with for profit company/corporation, $$$ talks & it talks louder than anything else. Basically those rich folks sitting in the boardroom always have the last word.
Thus, unless someone is rich enough to sponsor Vivaldi to develop a specific feature one desired, we really don't get to decide what V team gonna do next. LOL

I said politicians 'must' listen, not that they actually do; there's a difference.
I'd like to be able to fund development of specific features in Vivaldi but have doubts Jon would even entertain that.
Even sans my pet requests Vivaldi is damn good.
All the best.

@regberesford I've been putting tags in the description (CSV) since I first started using the Vivaldi Beta release. This has been discussed in the comments above. It works up to a point, but it has limitations.
If you tag something as a,b, but search for it as b,a, you might not find it. If you don't remember the exact tag for a category, Vivaldi can't suggest tags as you type, so you may unintentionally end up with two or more tags for the same attribute. AFAIK, there is no way to say a and not b or express other boolean conditions such as umbrella and policy and not rain.
I never think of using the bookmark icon in the main toolbar. I should try it sometimes.
When I press F2, there is no search option. Perhaps it is a customization you have added. I have never really used F2 at all.

By default, it opens a Quick Commands menu, which is an advanced search function (and more). If you haven't used it yet, you might be missing out on a really powerful & handy tool. If you have two minutes to spare, I recommend you also check out this introduction video.

@pafflick Thanks. I will try it out.

Its seems like Vivaldi team under estimate how insanely awesome tags are compared to folders.Anyone ever used tags properly will find, folder based organization archaic.
Vivaldi bookmark search already works perfectly with bookmark metadata.Means 90% of the feature already exist. The only 10% left to do is auto-complete the tags and parse tag strings to a list. This is to avoid duplicate tags with slight spelling differences.
The below link explains why tags are such hard-to-live-without feature.

That's a bold statement, since at least I know of no other mail client but M2 (Opera Mail) and M3 (Vivaldi Mail) that allow the use of tags/labels to sort and filter for mails. I believe that I've seen screenshots of google mail web client which actually offers something comparable?!
At least for Thunderbird and Exchange, I'm not aware that such functionality is available.Anyone ever used tags properly will find folder based organization archaic.
I think it's not black and white - just as I'd like to have some folders for mail as well as labels, I think that tags for notes and bookmarks make a lot of sense but folders still can have advantages (with bookmarks belonging exclusively to one folder then).
By the way: only because a feature is not implemented by vivaldi does not mean that the idea is not appreciated or approved of. It's mostly not the number of ideas that's scarce, it's time.

@jumpsq
I agree that folders are good enough when it comes to organizing old emails.
Vivaldi Bookmarks with the simple addition of tags will become a full-fledged knowledge management system for web based resources. Its super useful since most knowledge is in the form of a web page these days. I would be happy to pay for such feature I bet many users do too. There should be some sort of GoFundMe for insanely useful features like tags. As I understand this feature request being active for years without any progress.I hope expectations are managed better. -
@josephshabin I make extensive use of tags in Thunderbird with emails. I have a receipts folder with hundreds of emails in it. If I am working on a particular issue, I can tag the relevant emails and have Thunderbird just show me them. Each tag has a color and all tagged emails display in that color making it easy to visually scan through them. (If multiple tags are assigned to one email, only one tag's color is displayed.) It really helps.
Thunderbird's powerful message filter rules can even add tags to new messages automatically as they are received and sorted into folders.
I am starting to try to use Thunderbird's subfolders with Gmail. I'm not entirely sure how that works on the Gmail side yet, but it looks like they use labels (similar to tags) to get it to look like there are subfolders.

@josephshabin Thanks for that link! I read the whole thing. It's something I've wanted and thought about for years.

Imma jump ship to firefox till we get tags in Vivaldi.
A little temptation for you guys.
Secret Feature That Makes Firefox Bookmarks Awesome. -
Tags on bookmars would be awesome to have. Hope this gets to a reality soon
-
@saduran So far (around seven years!), we have not even seen the developers comment on this issue, so don't hold your breath.
-
@josephj11 If this issue gets 500 upvotes, will it matter? The silence of the developers is deafening.
As I have said before, I have no expectation that the developers will or must implement any change I request, but I do have an expectation that they will communicate with me (us) about my requests once they have received significant support. What's the point of user feedback if it's only one way?
I'm patient, but it's been over six years without the basic courtesy of a response. This has caused me to lose a lot of my enthusiasm for the project.

Why not use Raindrop. io
Their implementation is even better than firefox tags. -
@josephshabin This has been suggested before in this thread. I looked into it a bit before, but don't remember. I'll look again.

In my opinion, the search for the tags inserted in the description has no problem, just use small precautions.
For example I put a # or @ before the tag.
I always write them at the beginning of the description I don't put commas and just leave a space between them.
In this way when I look for them I just write # or @ and the first letter and the matches already begin. If I write #t, #table #to do etc will start appearing (just an example) while I add the letters, the search gets more refined and the results diminish. What I find inconvenient is, when I create a new bookmark, having to handwrite the tags I use most often. It would be nice to have a number of most frequent tags (to be set in the settings) to select when creating the bookmark.

Create a notes folder with all of your tags, and use the right-click, Insert note submenu to insert the tags.
The Menu key (or Shift+F10) can be used to avoid using the mouse if that works on your OS.
-
@Lugh1 That works pretty well for single tags, but fails when you want more than one because it is dependent on the order of the tags in the description and no Boolean logic can be used. E.g. umbrella and not insurance. If your tags are a b c, you can't search for a and c and a search for b a will also fail.
-
@Pesala Thanks, I hadn't seen this possibility (also useful for other things), I was using an external software (Autokey) but using the built-in notes is much better.
